Last year there were several promos for the Clarity. This year none.

That might be an indication that Honda doesn't make a profit on the Clarity. Selling more of them loses more money--reducing the incentive to buy ad time. GM didn't try to save the Volt by advertising it, probably for the same reason.

How many promos do you remember for the gen-1 and gen-2 Insights? Did Honda even run any new-gen Insight commercials on their golf tournament presentation? I assume that at near-Clarity prices, the new Insight (which is just a Civic with a few different body parts and a hybrid drivetrain) is priced to make a profit, but still no ads after the initial "Meh" campaign.

They had a pretty big Insight ad on the 17th hole. The car was prominently displayed behind the tee box with both Honda and Insight shown on banners. It certainly stood out for the hour or so I watched today. Not sure which commercials they ran but the Insight stood out.

I, insightman, approve! That's despite the fact that I'd buy a second Clarity before going for the new Insight.

What I really, really want, however, is Honda's new EV, the Honda e, the prototype of which the company is debuting in Geneva this week. I just sent 3 more letters to American Honda, begging them to reconsider their decision to restrict its sales to Europe. I want the Honda e because it's a work of art that would serve my urban motoring requirements even though Honda says it will go only 124 miles on a charge--just 35 miles greater than that of the "old" Clarity Electric. That darned Clarity PHEV has proven to be my gateway drug to EVs.

It was also a gateway drug for me to go solar and decide that when the gas yard machines die, I’ll go battery and yard sell all my gas cans.
When you finally retire your old Insight, it will be a bitter-sweet day and a sign of the Apocalypse.
