You can look on eBay and see how many each seller has sold. Just click the desktop version on your phone under the 3 dots in upper right corner once you're on the listing.

I looked at 2. They sold 25 together, so I guess people buy them. I don't blame people who actually have an ev and are waiting months though.

Yes, it's crazy how Californians are actually buying these up and probably putting them on cars that used to qualify (older Tesla, Volt, Leaf, Prius, etc) who probably have the white or green HOV stickers and don't want to sell their older cars for the new generation PHEV/EV cars.

The BIG difference is that the fake stickers don't have reflective/embedded state seals. Anyone with the fakes could be pulled over for any other reason and get popped for having the fakes as well. Wouldn't take a cop a second to notice. The driver would likely also get written up for their shaded front windows, too, since nearly everyone has them here - and they're all illegal. But cruise on until then!

Bought the clarity in 2018. I don’t need the carpool stickers now, can i wait next year to get them?

Glad to hear the genuine HOV stickers have embedded reflective background watermark state seals.

Yes that's right - I have noticed so many cars with tints on the driver, passenger and front windshields.
It's a huge safety issue because I can't see the driver especially at intersections and can't tell his/her intentions.
But no one gets popped for tinted windows unless they commit a more serious violation.....

You should apply now as the current sticker is purple and good till 2023.

If you decide not to use it, the stickers are worth $1500 on the black market...

On the other hand, if you know you won't need it this year, waiting until after Jan 1, 2020 means you'll get the next sticker, good until Jan 1 2024 (i.e. through the end of 2023); that extra year could make a difference in resale value if you wanted to sell the car in 2-3 years. Currently the program is set to end on Jan 1, 2025, so waiting until Jan 1, 2021 would get you the latest expiring sticker and resale potential (and doesn't require selling a traceable product on the black market :)

Lots of unknowns -- whether the program will be extended longer or curtailed sooner, whether more toll roads will neuter the value into a small discount like Metro Expresslanes has, etc. But if you truly can't take advantage now it might make sense to wait.

Definitely not worth it to sell the stickers on the black market. I wouldn't be surprised if the fine for the buyer if caught using stickers that do not belong to the vehicle, is similar to using a fake registration or stolen license plates on the vehicle.

Can you sell it? The decal goes with your car, you will need to show a registration card if you are stopped by a cop.

IIRC you have to apply within 18 months of when you take possession of the car. So, I'd check on that before waiting two years to apply.

I see there are lots of fake HOV stickers being sold on eBay and Etsy for around $70.
Then I see real legit red and purple HOV stickers being sold on Craigslist for $1500.

So it's a matter of being stopped by the CHP but I can see the allure of putting on non legit stickers on "expired" white/green sticker cars.
I have seen so many violators that the police can't keep up.

Yes, the registration number on each unique legit sticker belongs to a person and that person is supposed to produce the DMV form along with their registration when stopped by police.

Anyone able to verify this 18 month limit?
