Massachusetts has a funding pool that offers a $2,500 rebate for the purchase of a Clarity. There is still >$2m available for rebate. Application process is simple and the approval came back in less then 5 business days. They said that the payment can take 75 days to process but it’s a nice underwriting of the expense of a new car.

Correct, I too am in line for the rebate.

It is not clear to me how the funding pool is sourced. When I bought (late July) the pool was at $800k and dropping FAST (~$50k/day), which was incentive to go ahead with the purchase and get in line for the rebate. However, when it bottomed out, at some point more funding magically appeared in the pool. I have no idea if that will continue to be the case in the future.

My one criticism of the MOR-EV process is that as part of the application they want to you email a scan of your driver's license. From a security point of view, using unsecured email to transfer a photo ID is a Very Bad Idea. I reached out to them and they also wouldn't accept anything encrypted. They allowed me to send them a copy by US Mail instead, but then had some difficulty matching it up to my application (even though a copy of the form was enclosed in the letter). However, they did eventually manage to do so and confirmed that all was well. So now I am just waiting for my check to arrive!

Just got an email about the funding pool and it looks like the allocated funds are oversubscribed for 2018. Any MA residents who haven’t yet applied for a rebate probably should get your paperwork in ASAP.

I think we will have to wait for the legislature to refund it; and for the governor to sign it. This has happened (at least) once before.

The fund has been replenished apparently and is now at $612k remaining. So, the urgency is not there anymore, but I would have to assume at some point they will not be replenished?

Congrats Rick! When was it approved? Mine was approved quite a while ago (Nov 5) but I haven't seen the check yet.

Approved on September 18, so methinks you have a while yet to wait!

Starting on Jan 1, 2019, PHEVs will no longer be eligible for MOR-EV it seems.

So, if you are in the market for a Clarity PHEV in MA, get one before end of year!

Thanks for the heads up - they are transitioning to only fully BEV and FCEV vehicles, lowering the rebate to $1500 and restricting it to cars priced under $50,000. Glad we got ours this summer, it's one of the reasons we pulled the trigger to replace the old prius.

That’s a bummer. It was definitely one of the things that compelled me to trade in my car for the Clarity. If I was in the market for a car (which I wasn’t, but the Clarity at the crazy low price was too compelling) I think that the mass save discount plus federal tax credit would have been enough to get me to buy the Clarity.

    Just got this email:
Hi everyone, If you were thinking about electrifying your fleet by buying or leasing an electric or hybrid car, this one is for you, and it's urgent. On January 1, 2019, the $2500 Massachusetts state MOR-EV rebate will change. For those with a touch of range anxiety , those handy plug-in hybrid electric vehicles that have a gas tank back up (like the Chevy Volt and Toyota Prius Prime), will no longer qualify. Also, the rebate for all-electric vehicles (like the Chevy Bolt and Nissan LEAF) will go down from $2500 to $1500. It is also not clear if this rebate will continue after June 2019. Moreover, the federal tax credit is expected to start phasing out in April 2019 as well. If you're revved up to start looking, please don't forget to visit the Drive Green program, which connects you with dealers that have electric vehicles in stock, trained salespeople, and discounts (some quite substantial) above and beyond the state rebate and federal tax credit. These rebates and discounts apply to some leases too. Participation is free. Go to Drive Green to see all the vehicles available through the program, or email them, or give them a call at 617-524-3950 ext. 5. Spread the word, The MassEnergize Team P.S. General Motors has announced it is stopping production of its popular plug-in hybrid Chevrolet Volt (53 electric miles, then switches to gas) next year. So, especially if you're considering a Volt, December is a *really* great time to get one! PPS. My apologies if this email reaches you in error. Please, email me if you'd like me to take you off our list for information about local solutions for and responses to climate change.

I'm still waiting for my rebate check (approval was 11/2). Do they send an email when the check is mailed out, or did you just wait (and wait) like I am?

Similar story here - Mine was approved 11/5 but the check still hasn't arrived.

They send an email when the check is mailed. For me, the approval email said “within 75 days” and I think it was at 72 days when I got the email saying it had been sent—so hold on a fee more weeks.

My application was approved on Sept 18. On November 28 I got an email that the check was in the mail. It arrived a few days after that November email.

    Received my check.

    11/2 App approved
1/16 Email received that check was sent out
    1/19 check received in mailbox.

Depending on how you count days in betweeen I think it was 75 or 76 days that check was sent out after the approval.

Same dates as me, except mine was approved 11/5. Got the check yesterday also.
