I applaud Honda on how they equipped the Clarity. Many companies make you buy into the higher trims or pay a lot as options to get the safety suite (which is a must for me), Android Auto/Apple Carplay (another must), lower profile tires, LED headlights, soft touch plastic throughout the cabin, large touchscreen display, etc. You get all that in the base model. The only thing left out of the base model that I think is completely silly is the leather steering wheel cover. Every "full sized" rental car (in reality, mid-sized sedans) I've driven for years had leather covers and these were generally base models. That's very little cost to Honda but it is the one thing the driver is always touching so what happened there Honda?
You should be looking at what the extra equipment means to you, rather than worrying about the depreciated difference. Memory seating is immensely valuable to me, given that my girlfriend and I often swap cars, so $4k for the whole package was an easy spend to justify.. The car was already a good deal, however. Base models were equivalently reduced by $7k, like the touring, in my area
It was flat-out cost(plus dealer doc, tax, reg, etc..) Someone else on reddit mentioned their friend got one for $30,100. Should be possible to get in-around that price. Dealers are just as incentivized to sell you the car before the MA rebate goes away next year
How much was that “dealer doc”? It seems to often be a number they just try to sneak into get add’l profit.
~$480, about $50 more than a competitor. While their dealer doc was bogus, I was willing to pay it, considering the vehicle cost. They have to make money to stay in business, after all
Got it. But I would include that $480 in the “flat-out cost”. IOW, bottom line before tax, tags and title.
But did that price include a trade? Dealers can mess with price a lot when a trade is involved. I’d be surprised if anyone could walk into a MA dealership and buy a Clarity Touring for almost 20 per cent off MSRP ($7000) without a trade being involved.
No trade, straight up. Dealer kickbacks are pretty strong up here in New England. Some people have reported being offered a base, in exchange for $26.5k of their dollars. Check out the price paid thread, specially between late October-November. Incentives got pretty aggressive then. Doc fee is different between dealers. Most people dont insert doc fee on final price, but if you're curious, paid <$33k to get it on the road.
Somewhat offsetting the Model 3s that are popping up at Superchargers, are the surprising number of new Supercharger & Destination Charger locations...at least in the NY and Long Island area. It’s actually easier for me now to charge outside the house than it’s ever been. I’ve been pleasantly surprised to see how aggressive Tesla’s SC expansion plans have been.
