Those are all I’ve seen on this forum. Thanks for putting them all in one place. Please let us know what, if any, changes you notice afterwards. Especially in regards to milage, noise/rpms, power/drivability, etc.
I’ll hold off until you report.

Please be advised that the original 18-090 Service Bulletin was for the replacement of the climate control module. On the repair papers from the dealerships, this update/replacement will be listed as 18-089. The original 18-089 Service Bulletin was for the EVTC and 3-Way Valve software update. On the repair papers from the dealerships, this software update will be listed as 18-090, the EVTC and 3-Way Valve software update to the PCM and specifically the PGM-FI software.

The 18-097 Service Bulletin, an update to the battery charger software, is not part of the Service Campaign as are the above two updates. An owner often needs to ask directly for this software update. This fix is said to help with the problems getting a complete charge with some charging equipment.

My advice for anyone going in for the Service campaign is to ask that the parts (the climate control module and the new warranty CD) are in stock or have been ordered and received at the dealership before the appointment date. This will save having to come in a second time or needing to leave the car at the dealerships overnight(s).

Or, in my case leaving the car for 4 days! Those parts may be in short supply, so asking to have them ordered prior to the visit is a GREAT idea.

Here are the Service Bulletin numbers and part numbers from the work done on my car last week. the above post is correct, 18-097 needs to be requested. The other 4 listed below are "automatic"

They did 4 updates (descriptions in a post above):
    18-091
    18-090
    18-096
    18-089

The 18-089 update required a part, a CPU assembly 06999 that is part number 06796-TRW-A00
The 18-096 update is also a “part” because it’s a new warranty CD.

At the end of the day...these updates have not negatively effected the Clarity when in HV mode.

I originally thought the gear icon was less frequent a majority of the time but after a much more methodical/analytical approach...it seems the only instance that the gear does not come on is when I climb a 5% to 7% grade (or similar steep grade) for several miles. That is the only instance I can hear the engine whine but even then it is very tolerable. I believe the gear icon would come on prior to the updates climbing these grades but not 100% certain how often or for how long. So really a moot point for me from a data standpoint to be helpful.

The gear icon comes on at ~45 mph and above and engages/disengages as I remember it before on the interstates and four lanes where I can get up some speed combined with distance. I had to purposely drive meaningful miles on the Interstate and 4 lanes to conduct my analytics which is something I don't routinely do.

Otherwise the Clarity runs great. I feel very fortunate to have avoided thus far the rev issues, angry bees, loss of power etc as all these would be disconcerting if nothing else. Hopefully Honda USA will step up and work on these issues as they may ultimately affect many more Clarity's including ours. I keep my fingers crossed for sure since I guarantee my Clarity is not immune...lol Pure luck of the draw.

To update or not update, if your Clarity runs fine then forgo them...more power to you. If you get them...hopefully you'll have the same experience as I. Won't know till you take the plunge.

Any increase/decrease in mpg still TBD.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

PS...I wrote this to copy/paste to the other threads discussing this issue...hence the rather lengthy write-up and not necessarily directed to you personally...you just seems to be interested in this issue. Tying to cover three bases at one time. Hopefully @leop and @Atkinson find this helpful as well.

My Clarity is about a year old, and it has about 6500 miles on it. The Maintenance Minder lit up a month ago and prompted me to get the A01 service done. Most of my miles were electric -- about 4 tanks of gas since I bought it -- but it seemed prudent to change the oil after a year and get a professional inspection, and the dealer would do it for free because it was my first service. In addition to the oil/filter change and inspections, I got the standard 5 software updates (18-89, 90, 91, 96, and 97). I had to request 18-97, but the dealer (Honda of Bellevue near Seattle) looked it up, saw that it applied to all Clarity VINs, and didn't have an issue adding it to the list. The service took a day. No problems so far -- the HV range calculation is now much more reasonable.

Well, it's been 6 days now since the updates on our car and it's a mixed review. There has been no change (that's a good thing) in the driving characteristics and drivetrain operation. It's still great to drive, both in town and on the highway. The HV range is now accurate (yippee).

However, the car is going back to the dealer for further work. Since we got the car back, the climate system has become erratic, turning off and on by itself, resetting the temperature for driver and passenger even as we drive along, and going in and out of "auto" whenever it chooses. The car did not do this prior to the update and replacement of the climate cpu, so the dealer screwed it up. Also, the center screen has become erratic, with inoperative "buttons" and frequent freezes. On a 120 mile trip today we had to re-boot it numerous times due to freeze-ups and it was a hoot trying to use the system because we couldn't even guess which buttons would work and which wouldn't (they varied!). That's very different behavior than before the updates. I wonder if that software/hardware got screwed up by improperly (or not) disconnecting the 12V battery to do the climate cpu replacement. Anyway, I'll make the appt and keep my fingers crossed that I won't get the dreaded "Can't be reproduced at this time." excuse to do nothing at the service dept.

This does not encourage me to take my car to the dealer to have software upgrades applied for problems I am not having.

And (not Clarity related) I got a call from the local dealer's service department to schedule work for "a recall" for my CRV. I was surprised that I hadn't gotten any notice of said recall, and after I scheduled a date with them, went to the web site and discovered that there are no active recalls for that VIN. This makes me reconsider whether I should take the car in for service.

@Sandroad: Yikes, your giving me the heebie jeebies. I am seriously thinking of not getting any updates. If it aint broke . . . . . .
Sorry to hear the results of your updates.

It is entirely possible that my followup issues are dealer incompetence related. Software and hardware updates need to have proper procedures followed and my dealer did not offer much assurance they knew what they were doing. YMMV.

@Sandroad, thanks for the update and we’re all sorry to hear you have new problems to fix after the updates. I’m having similar issues with my solar install and I feel your pain.
    We’re pulling for you!

Or my mileage may not vary. I am sure that when the service technician at my dealer touches my car, it will be the first time that they have touched a Clarity, unless maybe they actually let them touch a real car at the training center and I'm lucky enough to be assigned someone who went to the training center.

The climate control module replacement requires a certain system reset and diagnostic procedure after the replacement installation. The procedure is detailed in the 18-090 Service Bulletin which has been posted previously in this forum. It is easy to do and I did it (repeated it?) after the update when the Clarity was in my garage.

The two service techs that do the Clarity service at my local dealership both have gone to the Honda Clarity training sessions (not just taken a computer class).

Thanks for the PDF. There is a statement in the PDF file that references the MIL. Anyone know what that is?

"There is a software problem in the climate control unit when running the heater, which may turn the MIL on."

My best guess is Malfunction Indicator Lamp.

Took ours in for the first time (one-year anniversary is today - LOL).

They were able to do most of the work, but didn't have the CD or the valve, so those two have to wait until next week. If it'd just been the CD, I'd have said forget it. The valve may or may not be a necessity, but since they've already ordered it, we'll take it back for that work.

    18-089
    18-090
    18-091
    18-096

These were the ones listed on the work order. Seeing as we've had zero problems in a year (I didn't count the exaggerated HV range as a "problem", just an annoyance), it's annoying that I'll have to go back again next week for a second round. I made the appt on Tuesday, so they had plenty of time to get a part. Hopefully these visits will be limited to only be once a year in the future.

Good guess. That's exactly what the dealer said MIL stood for.
Just had 18-089, 18-090, 18-091 and 18-096 installed. The dealer said 18-097 did not apply to my VIN and I have never had the problem anyway.
When I received the car, Econ mode had been turned off, the climate control system was off and when I turned it on, the temperature was set to the coldest setting. Otherwise, everything seems to be working as usual, but I will have a more extensive drive tomorrow.

Service Bulletin 18-097 (charging issues) does apply to all VINs and is attached.
Wow, another dealer who is ignorant or lying. After reading all the posts here, that no longer surprises me.
