I have decided to do without home L2 until obtaining a second car with cord. Hopefully by then the federal rebate for EVSE will have been restored and my utility will have implemented smart meters and possibly TOU.

Another vote for ChargePoint. Works flawlessly, looks great, and has software for tracking energy/cost.
Save $ on unit and installation by going w the direct wire. The spring clips make easy install and removal if you move.

A note about claiming the federal rebate for an EVSE, using IRS Form 8911. If you purchase your charger in the same year as you claim the $7,500 credit on your Clarity purchase, the $7,500 credit may wipe out your claim for the 30% credit on your charger and you can't defer the charger credit for future years. In particular, see line 15b and Form 8911 Instructions. If this is the case, your best option is to purchase the EVSE in the following year.

Interesting. I've been pretty happy with the included L1 charger, and this question about the tax implications is another reason to consider (also, I think the Maryland EVSE credit has been exhausted, but could be replenished in future).

Sure, you have to owe enough taxes to take advantage of either opportunity. But just a reminder, the EVSE tax rebate is not currently in effect for 2018 or any future years. In February when some credits were extended, the EVSE rebate was one of them but only retroactively for 2017. So you had to have installed the EVSE in 2017. Who knows whether some future legislation will pass extending it for 2018. Rather cruel to extend it for a year that had already ended, though.

I just had the Juicebox Pro 40 installed they are on sale for $549.00 + free shipping right now. Selected this over the ChargePoint as it will put out 40 amps (not needed by the Clarity) and I needed a new circuit installed so almost no difference on that end for the install. I figure I'll be prepared for whatever comes next. Only been using it for three days now and am satisfied with the unit, and software (phone and pc). I don't think you will go wrong if you get this unit either. Really like the preconditioning on L2 vs L1. L2 will get me a few extra EV miles on those days when my EV is exhausted and adding some quick power at home before going out again.
