Since he drives rarely and will not be able to charge at home (but has an option at his sons place) the Leaf has enough range and the option of fast charging in a pinch. Although if the situation ever changes and he is no longer babysitting, the Leaf would be more difficult for him to keep. Unless he is Ok using DCFC regularly. Either way he should 100% lease the vehicle if he goes with a Leaf.

Clarity PHEV and Kia Optima PHEV would probably be good options. I'd choose the Honda over the Kia if presented those two options. A Ford Fusion energy might work well for them since they drive such short distances.

Clarity FCV is a bad choice unless he wants to be a technological pioneer. He would risk having no way to fuel his car in the future, or very expensive fuel if Honda stops subsidizing it. Now that FCVs are no longer worth ridiculously high numbers of ZEV credits, I think the Japanese automakers will slowly reduce support and sales in the US.

I have an odd suggestion, but if he cares about performance and style and comfort, the Cadillac ELR has all of those! ;)

It is not a speed demon or anything, but it is as quick as any of the options listed above. And it is a looker. A young kid could fit in the small backseat easily. Used ones with low mileage can be had under 30k now. The interior is mighty comfortable, big wide doors make entry easy, but the seating position may not be ideal for an older couple.

Hehehe, it's my mom. She's babysitting for my brother. We live about 1000 feet from each other. She would have plenty of chance to charge. Backseat is important for church friends. She rejected my Volt.

Good suggestion. I been thinking about the Ford Fusion Engeri but the truck space is too awkward. Its too bad since the lease deal is fantastic. I get employee discount but I swore never to buy another Ford again.

I might get the Stinger. Since she doesn't drive that much, I could use the allowance mileage on the weekend:rolleyes:

LOL talk about burying multiple leads! :D Well if she got an ELR I'm sure she'd change her tune and be more like "Screw my church friends, they can go to hell or get their own EV!" lol

If you get a Stinger be sure to get the GT. Otherwise you'll be out run by every Bolt EV. ;) Of course, she would probably regret the Stinger too... if only because every time she would want to drive it somewhere you'd be out there street racing it!

I saw the Optima today, driving next to me. It looks so slick. The CD must be pretty low. It's a beautiful looking car. I would trade in my Volt if it had 40 miles of EV range.
