Yes, though only if it judges the situation to be particularly dire. Not intended to avoid collision, just “mitigate” it.

I can vouch that it does or at least starts to :)

I had someone slow down and make a u-turn in front of me when I was expecting them to turn left and
the brake started kicking in before I could react and stop.

That's the crash mitigation brake system of your Honda Sensing suite. This video shows how it works:

There is a gentle curve near my house and it will do that anytime someone is coming the other direction around the curve (even if they are in the proper lane).... I can vouch it will slowly start to apply the brake and, if it deems it necessary, it will completely lock the brakes and brake check you into the seat-belt. Despite the minor issues sill being worked out, I still really like the system. It just needs to have a quick 'yeah I know, ignore it' over-ride button for situations such as that curve (perhaps pressing the gas pedal further or hitting the '+' regen paddle?)

The 'lock-the-brakes' part has not happened on that curve, but I have experienced it other times where someone pulls out too close in front of you or something such as that.

It will brake fully. I think I only had 100 miles on the car when the car in front of me made a right turn into a parking lot with no signal. I went to break but before I did, the BRAKE flashed and the car applied the breaks abruptly. I did hit the brakes to complete the stop. I have no doubt it would have stopped. I will say this, you have to have b@!!s to try this out. It really is a last second decision by the car to apply the brakes.

Or chrome molybdenum steel ovaries. After all we some female Clarity owners posting here.
I’m glad to know it will brake at the last moment. Mine has only flashed but not applied the brakes. One day I’m going to get some friends and test it in an empty parking lot with a large roll of paper as the stationary target just for piece of mind that it works.

I've had mine break for me a couple of times while in bumper to bumper traffic. Whats weird is that in both instances, since I was going like 5mph or under since I was in bumper to bumper traffic, is that my foot was already lightly pushing on the break. It's like it didn't think I was paying attention or something. Both times its happened I was never like 'oh thank gosh...it saved me'. I was more thinking 'why the hell did the car do that? Just to try and give me whiplash?'

I had a different experience, where in my situation the car did not even attempt to break or flash break warning in dashboard.

It happened when there is one car in front of me at a right turn lane, we both stopped at red-light, and when light turned green, the car in front of me started moving but suddenly stopped because he is yielding to a U-Turn vehicle, at that time I was only checking my left side because I assumed he'd be continue through with his right turn... Obviously the auto-breaking did not catch his move at all and when I turned my eye back in front I had to apply the brake really really hard to come to a full stop (that's only time when you feel the weight of the Clarity). I'm pretty sure I'm only couple inches away from hitting his bumper but no in this scenario the car did not break at all.

I did experience light braking once, but I realized I never want to experiment that feature. It does warn quite early, but the actual brakes apply when I think it is much closer than I normally would. On the flip side, when I do coasting with regen paddle, the alerts seem to go more often than needed( not actual braking).

My older car doesn't even have stability control, so this is a huge gizmo upgrade for me. Adaptive cruise almost took a week to get used to and realized what all those buttons did.

I was in the left turn lane when the car in front of me decided they were going to make a U turn. The brakes were quickly and completely applied bringing me to a forceful stop. The car behind me slammed on their brakes and started honking at me. I was like "Uhhhhhhhhhhh............that's not good."
I was NOWHERE near hitting the car making the U Turn.
