Is it plugged in? According to the manual, it will not come on if plugged in to a 120 V charger. What is the inside set to? From what the manual says, I get the impression that the "up to 30 minutes" it will turn on means it will only get the interior to what you have it set to and will turn off before 30 minutes if it's done. If it was insulated in your garage and the interior temperature hasn't dropped much, I could see it not coming on at all since it doesn't think it has anything to do.

It will start if your car is plugged into 120V charger as long as charging has stopped (like first thing in the morning)

Good to know. Hasn't gotten cold enough here for me to try it while plugged in in the garage (whether charging or not). Only used it a few times to turn on the A/C before leaving work this summer when it was over 100°F outside.

I have gotten the same thing. Most times it is successful, but sometimes it's not. Don't know why.

Here is the info from jdonalds from awhile ago. I have noticed that while I am in the car and it is pre conditioning, the fan speed will change to maintain the optimal temperature. When you first turn it on, the fan is strong to get it to the right temperature and then it will get lower at a certain point and then higher again if it needs to.

Car was plugged in with 240v but on the day when the climate control worked was very similar to the day when it did not worked. Things will be clear in Canadian Winter were all temperature in Garage and in Car will be low enough, Thanks all

The remote climate conditioning has a range of inside and outside temps that must be met in order for it to work. If you’re outside either range it will not turn on. Here is a an explanation of it. Also, there are posts that it may not start immediately, so you have to be patient and it stops if you open a door.
These may be some reasons for the complaints about it not working or working sporadically.

I've noticed that the outside temperature displayed on the dash is often quite inaccurate when the car has been sitting, whether in the garage or outside. There's no airflow to the sensor, so it will be 5-10 degrees too high or low (depending on the weather) until I start driving and it gets some airflow. It needs a tiny fan to periodically move some air through the system.

I had this problem 80% of the time when using the app over LTE when I had my iphone 6. I upgraded to the iphone 8 a few weeks ago and the problem is completely gone. It made me think that there may be a timeout value that is too low for the 6. I don't have any other explanation why the success went up so high with the better phone.

Does preconditioning stop if you open any door or does only the driver's door stop preconditioning?

Don’t have personal experience but the doc I posted says all doors have to be closed and stops if driver’s door opened. We need some real world testing.

The preconditioning DOES stop when a door is opened. I, too, have had the system prematurely, on its own, turn off, sometimes only minutes after turning on (outside air temp in the 30s). I’m guessing its tied to the charging issue that’s fixed via the Safety Bulletin 18-097, related to similar charging stallouts. I haven’t had the software update yet and am hoping that will also fix the preconditioning glitch you and I periodically experience. I’m suspecting my Level 2 charger and/or electrical service may have periodic spikes/drops that the Clarity’s original configuration tripped. Has anyone else had this problem after getting the update?

Ours only turns off when the driver's door is opened. I routinely open other doors to put my daughter in the car or toss stuff in the front and the warm (or cold) air keeps on flowing. I then usually open the driver's door to turn it off before unplugging - gotta save that 0.1 mile of range... (pretty sure this is in the manual)

I’m always getting in the driver’s door—thanks for the info!

Same here, driver door stops climate control, all others exempt.
One other thing, climate control will display a successful start even if within th excluded temp box - it's just that nothing will happen.
    No AC, heat, fan, etc.
If you display a failure, the message is related to communication with the car's telemetry unit.
And another thing, the sensor near the start button measures interior temp and humidity to decide if and what fan speed for remote climate in conjunction with exterior temp.
Not sure where the exterior sensor is for outside temp.

I usually drive away while plugged in and let it unplug itself to save energy, unfortunately I need to buy a new charging cable every day. :)

I have had the same experience where I opened the passenger door and the preconditioning continues. If I open the driver's door, it stops. To avoid the glitch where Sirius XM radio won't work following pre-conditioning, I have tried to use the app to turn Off the preconditioning before opening the driver's door, and that worked.

I also sometimes get the error message saying preconditioning could not turn on, but it actually did turn on so I think it is a communication issue between the car and the app, in my case.

I haven't tried that yet--isn't there a fail-safe that prevents you from moving when plugged in? Something I tried yesterday was opening the charge-port door as I was pulling into the garage--the door wouldn't open.

I read this on reddit as a workaround for the SXM bug after pre-conditioning. It works every time I've tried it.

When you get into the car and close the door, the dash animation starts -- similar to when it shuts down. Wait for it to complete, then hit start. If you do this, the SXM radio will work, even if you've pre-conditioned. If you hit start before the animation completes, then SXM doesn't work.
