I'm always hearing about software updates for Teslas that add new features, optimize efficiency curves, etc. How many updates have come out so far for the Clarity? And while I'm not expecting "Teslatari"-type updates, it would be neat to know that the car will be supported with regular updates. BTW, how exactly DO you update the Clarity? USB? Or do you have to drive it to Honda? Are the updates free?
Close to zero. (not counting the map updates) Only Tesla is like Tesla, and most of the mfgrs are not going to support continuous updates. It's kind of silly, because if you buy a non-Tesla vehicle, you're pretty much frozen with whatever tech that vehicle comes with… so by the time a car is paid off or out of lease, well many people don't even keep an iPhone that long. And in the case of Clarity, it came to market with some technology (infotainment and camera systems) that was already long in the tooth. Neither will likely be updated. The only updates that might happen are those - such as the ones to correct the HV mileage and others that correct charging and internal issues - that simply fix a problem. Can't see them ever adding features, a la Tesla.
At least andriod auto and apple carplay should countinue to be updated as well as add apps and more functionality.
Maybe somebody at XDA can jailbreak the ancient Android 4.1 in the car and at least get us an up-to-date version that isn't vulnerable to bluejacking.
Agree with bfd, only Tesla is Tesla. Two questions I have, 1) How many other manufacturers update OTA? I think I read GM has one OTA upgrade for Bolt? 2) Have any other manufactures added features via a software updates as opposed to fixes for problems?
