Does Android Auto stop functioning with an error when your phone is 100% charged?

I have a Moto x4 with Android 8.1. Android Auto works, but if the phone reaches 100% charge while Android Auto is active, it gets disconnected from the car and a red error exclamation comes up on the phone. The only way to get it reconnected it to unplug the cable from the phone or car and plug it back in (which is obviously impractical while on the highway). It will then disconnect again within several seconds as the battery hits 100% again. To use Android Auto, I have to remember to discharge my phone before trips. Honda suggested I take it to the dealer and have them test it with "a bunch of phones they have on hand", which I suspect meant "ask everybody in the shop to hand over their personal phones". That kind of test will take a long time given I have to wait for every one of those phones to get to 100% and see if the error happens, so I'm asking here instead what phones anybody else has experienced this with. Is there some common hardware or software version?

Sorry if this has already been posted, but I can't find a thread. I've seen other posts, but counting internet posts is hard, so I put a poll on. Regardless of answer, listing a phone model would be helpful.

My Google Pixel 2XL (Pie 9) has been staying connected ever since I switched to a high-quality cable (recommended by someone in another thread here). Haven't had troubles with disconnection when phone reaches 100%.

A-to-C cable options are limited. I did get one certified as good by that Google engineer guy who does A-to-C adapter reviews checking whether they have the proper resistors and crap, and it's a tiny little 6" one, so length shouldn't be a problem either.

So the fifth A-to-C cable I've attempted this week finally works. Only had a chance to try one charge cycle so far, but one is better than none for the other cables I've tried. FWIW, the working cable is an AmazonBasics A-to-C 3.1 Gen2 10 Gbps cable.

Yeah, I've been getting a lot of spontaneous android auto disconnects also. In my case, they don't seem to be related to 100% charge. Today I saw it disconnect and then noted that it was re-starting. I think my phone is randomly re-starting after I installed android auto. The only real way to test this would be to uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. I also installed Honda link at the same time so it's possible that that could be the culprit. No question, however, that android auto has been buggy for my Samsung Note 5 Nougat.

Hey OP, I have an X4 as well. Ever since the newest Android they released, Android auto has been buggy for me. If you go to the Motorola support forums for the X4, there are a lot of upset people, including me. I had to do a factory reset to even get it working. Now it crashes every now and again and I don't think it's because I get to 100%. Try factory resetting (I realize that's a pain, trust me I do) and see if that helps you.

Since I posted in October it's been working each time I've used it, but there have been several updates to the Android Auto app since then, so I don't know if it was actually the cable that was the problem (which I very much doubt... a wire is a wire is a wire, and if it is capable of simple charging and data transfer on one device, there's absolutely no reason to not work on another).

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge running Android 8 (Oreo). Does not disconnect when battery fully charged. Android Auto does exhibit some strange behavior from time to time. Sometimes it seems to get confused between AA and HondaLink commands and it does not react well to confusion. Things freeze.

I have not installed the 1/15 update because it did got a number of crabby reviews.

I just got a Samsung S7 edge running Oreo and the car does seem to recognize it. I can't use voice commands from the wheel button and Android Auto doesn't work. I keep getting a message saying that phone is not recognized or compatible (or something similar). Did you need to make any adjustments in settings to get the phone to work?

Samsung Note 9. Zero issues with Android Auto or HondaLink. Just works. Every time.
