Does anyone have a source for a temporary spare tire for a 2018 Honda Clarity Plug-in Hybrid. New or used. It can be from any manufacturer so long as it fits the wheel pattern and be good for about 50 miles slow speed driving.

Just FYI in case you didn't know, but it does come with a repair kit on the right side wall of the trunk. You also get roadside assistance.

Good luck and hope you don't get a flat! :)

Since this thread is already here, has anyone found a spare tire / wheel that will work on the front of the Clarity? I know, don't do that, but I just tried a 17 inch rim from a 2015 CR-V that works great on the rear, but will not clear the front brake assembly on the front. I really want to find a Honda/Acura rim 114.3X5 64.1 hub that will work with a 145/80/17 tire on the front. Anyone?

If you get a front flat put a rear wheel on the front and put your CRV spare wheel on the rear. That way not only do you clear the front brakes but you also don’t risk any differential/transmission issues with a wheel circumference that might be slightly off.

Roadside assistance uses their own jack and lug wrench regardless. So technically all you really need is the spare but it does make sense to get the whole package so you don’t need to depend on roadside assistance

I know what you are saying, and agree. However in my situation, there are times when my wife could be driving the car in remote (no cell coverage, few people) areas, and I would like the option to be able to install the 145/80/17 tire ( 0.8% difference in diameter from stock) on the front and drive no more than 50 miles at 50 mph. If necessary, I will buy a full size and carry it on the few times per year it is necessary, just hoping to find a compact spare that will work.

Forgot to mention you actually have to change the rear tire first then take that tire and put it on the front if you want to keep an original wheel on the front drive wheels in a front flat situation with a spare. People probably figured that out already.

That is what I would do, but just thinking of the one time my wife may be alone and needed to do it herself in the middle of nowhere with no cell coverage. By the way, the middle of nowhere is in South Georgia, and there are still lots of places with no cell coverage. Of course I know many of you have your own middle of nowhere.

Somebody needs to come up with something better to address this trend of not having a spare. I owned my Clarity for 3 days then got a flat that could not be fixed with an inflation kit. Are LRR tires more susceptible to flats?

I bought the 145/80/17 aluminum spoke spare from a 2009 Infiniti G37x. I thought it would work on the front as well as rear, but I haven't jacked the car up to check it on the front. I'll attempt to do so over the weekend and let you know if it clears the brakes on the front. My father-in-law has the 145/80/17 from a 2016 Nissan Maxima. It will take me longer, but when I go see him again, I'll check to see if it clears the brake on front as well. By the way, both of these have 66.1mm hub and need the 66.1mm to 64.1mm hubcentric ring adapters. They also both use Acorn lugs, not the radial lugs that Honda uses.

Thank you @Robert_Alabama If the g37 rim will work on the front, I may have to go with that. Hoping for a Honda/Acura solution, but I know for sure the 2015 CR-V won't work. Finding spare rims to try is really hit and miss at the salvage yards, at least the few I know of in my area. I thought it would be easier. Next time I'm at the dealer, I'll ask to try the Accord 17".

I've read that thread and several others. My only question was has anyone found a spare tire / wheel that will work on the front of the Clarity? It is possible I missed that answer. If so I apologize, I just don't recall seeing it.

I tried my spare on the rear wheel. I didn't realize the front might be different. Perhaps I'll have to do the whole test again. However if I do have a flat on the front and the donut doesn't fit I'll just take a wheel off the rear to replace the flat on the front, and put the donut on the back. Yes it's extra work but at least it will work. Stupid designs that don't include spares. I hate this lack oif a feature.

General recommendation is to always run the donut on the rear (non-steering / driven location). For a front flat, first move a rear wheel forward and then put the donut on the rear.

I can confirm that the spare tire/wheel combo in the first post in the thread I linked to does fit and works ok on the front of the Clarity PHEV. Details on how to make that spare work safely with hub rings and new lugs nuts are later in the thread.

@Sandroad thank you. I was hoping to find a Honda/Acura rim that would fit the front without using different lugnuts and hub shims, but looks like the G35/G37 rim is the only known solution. I will start watching for a good deal on ebay. I already have the tire, just need the rim. Again, thank you for taking the time to check.
