My previous PHEV was a Ford Fusion and I was able to speak a text message and send it without plugging my phone in. I don't always plug my Samsung Galaxy into the Clarity USB port. I can receive a text message but can't return a message by speaking it. Does anyone know the correct settings to use for doing this without plugging the phone in? Or is it even possible?

If you do plug in your phone and use Android Auto, try using the Textra app. It can be set as the default messaging app in Android Auto and it will allow you to reply via a spoken message.

Can you provide any more details? I installed the app on my phone and use it as my default SMS messaging, but I don't see it anywhere on the Clarity interface that either mentions that app specifically, or provides a verbal message function.

Sometimes when I am fiddling with the settings on the car computer I know how Bill Belichick feels... http://www.nfl.com/videos/new-england-patriots/09000d5d8226fa64/A-Football-Life-Car-trouble

You have to change some settings in Textra and disable Android Auto's SMS notifications. It only works within Android Auto but it allows you to speak your reply. I do get the regular SMS notifications when I'm not in Android Auto but it is limited to the few reply options at that point.

On a related note, are folks able to send a new (not reply) text message using Android auto when plugged into the usb port ?
When I try to do that, by pressing the microphone icon on AA and say "send message" it just spins the four dots for a while
and returns to the previous screen.

I have a feeling this is due to my phone but just wanted to check if it is something else or the default setup in Clarity.

Android auto has been a big disappointment for me so far. I think it is due to my phone being old and laggy. I haven't been able to get Waze or text messaging to work well at all.

I have an old-ish phone (Galaxy S7) and took my first trip to work this morning. Waze worked fine and I got a text that was read to me without issue. The system is a little slow to respond, but everything functioned fine.

I installed Textra to try voice to text, but haven't messed with it yet. Will report back this weekend.
