    Wifey gave thumbs up. I'll be placing a order.

    Hey, spec wise it is a Bolt EV! :)

    That is great that it is launching this year. This is the perfect size vehicle if you ask me.

    Hopefully Kia ups production and the Niro vastly outperforms previous Kia/Hyundai plug-ins.

    Kia probably benchmark the Bolt. The key difference is charging speed and adaptive cruise control. On road trips, the difference will become apparent.

    Kia targeted 240 miles. Pretty close. This 238 miles is way different than the Bolt 238 miles. With heat pump and fast charging speed, the range difference is two folds.

    The German magazine did the test. The best performance came from Hyundai. The worst performance came from Bolt.

    Niro EV will come with 40kWh and 64kWh version. The same with Kona EV.

    No longer range Ioniq BEV and Soul EV.

  9. Do you have a source for that?

  10. I went for a test drive in the 2018 Kia Niro '3' Hybrid model today and was nicely surprised at this compact crossover SUV. I really liked it.

    The new article says the Ioniq will have more range. Does anyone here know how to read Korean? I've been using Google translation and sometimes it flakes out.

  13. Thanks for the link. That's awesome!
    I can struggle through a few languages, but Korean isn't one of them. Luckily, I'm fluent in Google Translate.

    No, I'm using Google translation.

    I have setup a table with translation and Google search through news article. Took me a year to set up all the keywords. I got a huge database of words that I use to search.

    Hyundai = 현대
    Kia = 기아
    Niro EV = 니로EV
    Kona EV = 코나EV
    Bolt EV = 볼트EV
    Ioniq = 아이오닉

    as a current soul EV owner, i'm hoping this car comes with liquid thermal battery management, like bolt and tesla

    This one is exciting. I'd be especially happy if the Niro EV can tow like the HEV version can. I'll need to double check the cargo area to make sure it's big enough, but I'll get to that once my Leaf lease is nearing its end.

    My lease is up on my sorrento in late September. We bought my wife a Soul EV+ last fall and we both love it. I'm ready to go all electric if I could get the 238 mile range. I bought a 40 amp level 2 charger so I might as well use it for both our vehicles.

  19. Kia supossedly also has a new version of the Soul coming out in the 2nd half of the year, though details are still slim. Built on the same platform as the Hyundai Kona, it will launch in the 2nd half of 2018 (though we don't know if that includes the US yet). It will have the smaller battery, at least at first, which might give it about a 150-mile range.

    I find it odd that news of it is so far limited to the Korean press.

    most of us soul EV owners would love 150 mile range, which makes perfect sense considering Kia is now launching the Niro ev and sister Hyundai with the Kona Ev with 39 and 64 kWh packs. i think Kia is looking at the soul ev as the ugly duckling of their ev family. hopefully we'll get both the Kona and Niro ev's in NA by next year. I love the tech and look of the Kona, but the Niro is plain boring. what is more exciting is the 100 kWh charging rate, and also possible liquid battery cooling/management. I'm pretty sure all new ev's from Kia/Hyundai will have the new 811 batteries, meaning lighter and denser packs

  21. Just checking to get your opinion, @JyChevyVolt, of what we've seen of the production version (it's in another thread) that debuted yesterday. You like?

    41F isn’t that cold. And heat pump efficiency starts to drop quite a bit below 40F. And a normal EV driver would use the heated seats and steering wheel, and set the AC temp to a more reasonable and still comfortable setting. Also, not drive 80mph.
