Confused about the coverage provided for the Hybrid Powertrain. One page of the warranty book mentions Hybrid Powertrain System, with a footnote of PZEV vehicles 15 years or 150,000 miles. Another page mentions Hybrid Powertrain, including Integrated Motor Assist System (IMA) covered for 3 years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first in California.

Which one is it 15/150k or 3/50k?

Way back when we had our 2008 Prius I heard California demands 150K miles. Perhaps someone else will have document references.

Bumper to bumper warranty is 3 years 36k miles
Powertrain warranty is 5 years 60k miles
California (and Mass, yeah) Emissions Defects and Performance Warranty for PZEV is 15 years 150k miles
So the question is, what parts of the hybrid system are emissions related?
The manual states: Major Hybrid System Components.
My *very* non-authoritative answer is that most if not all of the hybrid powertrain is emissions related because it was designed comprehensively as a unit to achieve extremely low emissions.

It looks life everything except for the battery (10 years /150k) is covered for 15 years/150k miles. I wonder though if the charging cable they refer to is the evse because it seems that it too has warranty for 15 years.

Does these mean for folks in PZEV states purchasing extended warranty is pointless?

Not really. There are plenty of things not related to emissions on this car that can go wrong.

Also, is the California warranty based on place of purchase (CA) or place of registration ?

The pdf above says registration and normally operated in the state.
