    Hello,

I am planning to purchase Clarity touring in coming days. I have seen couple threads for extended warranty, however most links (Hyanis) don't offer it to CA residents. Can you folks share info for a CA dealer that will offer competitive extended warranty. I am considering D80 at the moment.

I'm in SoCal too. I got D80 too from Saccucci, online, I didn't even try local dealers. Saccucci's prices weren't as good as Hyanis's, but they sells/covers CA.

@clinton Any chance you could share what you paid for D80? Thanks

Sure, I got it for $1464, and they didn't charge CA sales taxes on it (pretty sweet). They also offered optional discounted packages with it (first N services, maintenance, etc.), which I didn't take.
You can just fill their online form for a full quote, no strings attached.
    Cheers

Very true. But I weighted in "new model" + "plenty of electronics" + "complicated engine/motor/..." (PHEV have IMO plenty more things which can brake than EV).
I had it for my previous Camry, and in fairness I got it to cover repairs for pretty much exactly what I paid for it... So I say to myself that I pre-pay for peace of mind.

Exactly why I purchased the D80 and I never before have purchased extended warranties. Added to that decision was the fact that I keep cars a long time and since it’s transferable and pro rated Im covered if I sell/trade early.

I might add that a friend who works in dealer parts dept looked up the prices for all parts that have electrical flow and they added up to $87,000! LOL.

@clinton Thanks for sharing the price you paid. I got similar numbers from curry honda, but saccuci needed VIN which I don't have currently (although I did not try with random vin).

Still, the fear factor doesn’t offset the math, the data favors not buying it vs buying it. I like this Quora answer:

  12. The same applies to any insurance. I'm sure I have paid too much for medical insurance all these years as the only thing I did every year is the annual checkup.
Should I buy life insurance? I expect to live at least to 70, but who knows? I can die tomorrow. The car might not fail in 10 years in average, but it can also fail the next day.

For most people who bought extend warranties will find it not necessary. BUT when you're the minority that need to use it, you will be very glad you have it.

I'm not buying because I don't like D80 doesn't cover road hazard which easier to happen and I'm willing to take the risk (the only extended warranty I bought for my Mazda 3 included road hazard which was much cheaper and I actually used that).
However, there is nothing wrong for some people prefer to buy it just for peace of mind which might well worth the cost.

Wait, I thought it was mentioned that Honda Care includes road hazard coverage.

I tend to agree on not purchasing extended warranties about 98% of the time. If I were to purchase an EW i would not finance it into a car loan. Because in all cases i have found it remains an option later on. As long as the car has a manufacterers warranty you can still get an extended warranty without paying interest on something you cant even use for several years. This may be why the extended warranty is not offered in So Cal, because you have 8 years/ 150k on the Li battery and related components.

You're betting an insurance company (the ones with all the data) that you're going to win a bet that something goes wrong with your car. All insurance works like that. And just like Las Vegas, the house always comes out on top.

This is true with all insurance. Haha. But if you are the unlucky person who has an expensive failure, but is covered on an extended warranty, you look like a genus. Some people dont mind the extra money and are more interested in preventing potentially expensive repairs.

  17. I'm not sure myself but I asked in another Extend Warranty thread and someone said road hazard is not included.

  18. California requires manufacturers cover Hybrids with a warranty to 150k miles on not just the battery. It includes a lot of the Hybrid components. I’m still on the wall for the warranty.

  20. That's roadside assistance. What I meant of Road Hazard coverage is free replacement of windshield or bent wheels because of flying debris or potholes. It was included in my Mazda's (highest) extended warranty.

Roadside assistance also covers any other Hondas you might own. I’m saving by not needing AAA any more, so over 8 years that reduces the actual cost of the hondacare plan. For me it’s over $120/yr, but that because I have a lot of Hondas.

AAA will tow your car anywhere within X miles, including your home. Roadside assistance will only tow to nearest Honda dealer so depending on what you want to do. I still keep AAA since they offer more flexible services.
