Just got an updated “Clean Air Vehicle” doc from CA DMV that extends the ending date from 1/1/2019 to 1/1/2022.

Didn’t have to do a thing, wasn’t expecting it. Just showed up in the mail today.

This is the thing where we get to drive in the HOV lanes regardless of the passenger count.

Congrats. What color is your HOV lane sticker? When did you apply for the sticker? I have green and it's supposed to end at end of the year and I would need to re-apply to extend to 2022.

Red sticker. Applied in late May, early June.

I have a feeling that those of us who got their green stickers earlier in the year won't be receiving any notes from DMV. We'll likely have to pay for new red ones.

That is correct. But at least we have the option to get a new red sticker. Plus we were able to take advantage of both the HOV lane access and the $1,500 rebate.

Here’s the current text on the DMV website about the matter.

Owners of vehicles issued a Green or White HOV decal after January 1, 2017 will be eligible for the new Clean Air Vehicle Decal that will expire on January 1, 2022.

The details on how we’ll apply will be available later in the year.

  8. I applied for my tag for a vehicle I purchased in July and received the card listing the expiration as 2022.

Hopefully it's no later than October, since it will take a few months (it did for the greenie) just for them to process paperwork and send a new red tag.

I got my new red stickers in less than a month.

Yes, this is pretty cool. We just received a notice in the mail that our Red HOV stickers will be good until 2022. We've received them for 3 months now but didn't want to put them on if they are going to be good until 2019. Now that they are valid for 3 more years, we are putting them on this weekend.

Did you previously have green stickers?

Just got my DMV paperwork yesterday. I live in Orange County, my one way commute is 17 miles through some of the toughest traffic in the country, my average time to and from work was about 45- 60 minutes, the main reason for my Clarity was the car pool sticker, in the car pool lane I'm down to about 30 minutes. I'm so glad to hear about this extension!!
