Is anyone else getting issues with Android Auto? It worked for me for about 1 day but then stopped. When ever I try to connect the device now it tells me it was unable to find a phone even though I am charging it from the higher amp USB/Phone outlet.

What phone are you using? There is known issue when using LG phone with AA (you have to unplug and plug back to make it work with LG phone). So try unplug and plug back several time. If not, try uninstall AA and delete the phone from the head unit and start over.

One thing I've noticed on my Clarity and Odysseys is that a loose/cheap USB cable prevents hooking up to Android Auto. The cable is still good enough to charge, and it sort of connects with data but will either disconnect after a while or sometimes refuse to connect at all. In my case, switching to a better cable solved my problem.

I'm using a Galaxy S8. I'll try the classic, did you turn it off and on again, with all its variations.

Try a different USB cable. I've had issues in the past with aftermarket radio and a USB cable which was too long for AA MHL signal. Replacing for a shorter cable resolved my issues.

I have no problem with my phone (Sony Xperia) using AA. I read on some forums which people had to unplug and plug back or just plug the phone before turn on the car to make AA work on LG and Nexus phones

I am using a 3 foot cable. Is that too long?

Replace the cable with one from a known working brand. Also restart your phone. I have a Pixel, before upgrading to Pie some part of the back interface would crash. It would loose the ability to switch audio to headphones, bluetooth and android auto and eventually android auto would give out. Android Pie seems to have resolved most of this. Android Auto was the trigger for this bug.

There is also an issue with the USB resetting when the battery reaches 100%. This remains in Pie but not as bad. My phone battery has hit 100% and nothing happened other times it scrambles audio, but dosen't disconnect like it used to.

Alright, I've never looked into Brand Names on my Usb Type C cables. Any suggestions? I ordered my from Amazon and they seemed to work well enough but now I'm not so sure.

I've found I need to be sure the USB cable is firmly plugged into my phone (Pixel 2 XL); if it's not fully-seated sometimes the Android Auto connection disconnects even though I think it's still supplying power. The car may have less tolerance for USB Type C connections being loose.

I clicked on this thinking I was going to read about issues with Android autos texting feature. I have problems with texting ALL the time. It's so frustrating. Theres a large thread about this here: https://groups.google.com/a/googleproductforums.com/d/msgid/android-auto/1343a9c0-0dfd-4585-85d6-b5a6236cd9d4%40googleproductforums.com

Does anyone else have this issue on the clarity? There just isn't anyone else that Ive read on these forums that say they have a clarity. I can send a text maybe 50% of the time.

    I had the same issue.
    Fixed by resetting the console.
Just go to the Android settings and reset is like an Android tablet. (It is an Android tablet afterall)
If it ask for a pin after reset, you might need to move to an open area and wait for 15-30 min.

I have successfully used my mid-range Moto G5 phone with AA and two different Hondas (a 2018 Clarity and a 2016 Accord). Some Android phone brands simply don't work well with AA (probably due to various phone manufacturer's own software changes to base Android), and it's possible your phone itself is the culprit. Over time, however, I have indeed had problems when I tried other cables than the one originally supplied with the phone, so that could also be your problem. Finally, even in the Clarity, if your Android phone has a screen lock set up (code to unlock phone needed before accessing other apps), you may need to unlock your phone before AA will load even if plugged into the Clarity. So make sure your phone is unlocked (i.e., decrypted) when plugged in to the car.

I didn't know you could reboot the head unit. I did that and I've sent four texts with only one issue. Thank you SOOOOOO much for your responses.

Highly recommend Anker brand on Amazon for high quality products at a reasonable price.

I seriously doubt it's his cables, but you can try switching them. If it's charging, it should work. I use Android Auto through a tablet, and only rarely does it not connect. Usually unplugging and replugging works for me. Maybe rebooting the phone. Weird.

Cables. When I used random cables, it would appear as if it's working but I would get all sorts of errors, freezes, etc. I upgraded the cables and now the system works much better.

I can chime in here on cables. Took a trip from NYC to Baltimore, this weekend. Using the fresh, never once used cable that came with my last phone (Google Pixel XL), I had about 10 disconnects on the 4 hour drive down. Back up to NY, I used the fresh, never once used cable that came with my current phone (Pixel 2 XL) and it worked flawlessly the entire trip.

Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Inside EVs mobile app

The problem here is what is a "high quality cable". I have no idea which cable came with my phone since the phone is 2 years old and I've used a dozen cables. When I go on Amazon there are hundreds of options but I'm sure that ultimately they're coming from the same few places in China. I would be more than happy to spend a bit more for the "best" but not sure what that would be. Even stuff that says OEM is lying. For example, I bought some OEM samsung batteries (for my note 4) and then noticed that they were labelled "Samsnug".
