$200 something for the tire, plus at least $100 for mounting and balancing...

    Oh no. :(

Did you use the tire repair kit at all? Or just pull over and wait for a tow?

It’s slit on the sidewalk. No way the repair kit would fix this.. still waiting for a tow. Supposedly a flat bed is being sent.

So... I stopped right after hitting the curb. So far the TPMS indicator has not detected the flat.

It would only do it if driving? I know it’s “indirect”

Ugh.... sorry you had to be the first here....

From what I read elsewhere here, the TMPS doesn't include a detector inside the tire (for better or worse) but somehow detects it based on a slightly different speed between each side, or something weird like that.

Based on that, then yeah, I think it requires it to roll for a bit.

Still lucky enough to not damage the alloy wheel :-D

  9. TPMS on the Honda uses the ABS wheel speed sensor to calculate when a tire is low.

That price for the tire and installation is very high, but in an emergency you are kind of stuck.

On the positive side, with the Clarity, you never have to worry about the goo from the pump ruining an expensive (and yet often unreliable) tire-pressure sensor inside the tire.

On another positive side, if you have to get a new tire, it's good to get it when the wear on the other 3 tires is still minimal.

Yup, same thing happened to me, you can search for my flat tire thread. The day after I got my new tire, the TPMS gave an alert. If that happens, check your pressures and if they’re all good, reset the TPMS through the settings in your head unit. Of course I brought my car back in to the tire place only to learn I could have reset it myself! Hope this saves you a return trip if yours alerts afterwards.

If I had a spare I could have shopped around for a new tire. Maybe I'll get AAA again so I can have it towed wherever I want to and not the Honda dealer.

Thinking seriously now to get one, even if I keep it at home... Next set of tires it's either Costco or Sams

I upgraded my AAA membership to get up to a 200 mile tow. This way I can get to a reasonable tire shop if necessary. In the meantime I'm as careful as I can be when parking. Coming out of a SUV with 60 series tires it's an adjustment. I had 45's in my '06 Infiniti and it took 2 replacement tires (total damage around $700) for me to get it. After that no more sidewall abuse.

Sorry I am confused. Why do you need AAA membership, I thought this car has a 3 year emergency assistance (including tow) service?

Your insurance don't cover emergency towing?

By the time you found a towing company with an available flatbed truck (required for the Clarity), and waited for that truck to get to you, a spare tire would have enabled you to already drive yourself to the tire store (with no worries about careless towing company damage to your aluminum-clad Clarity). And if the tire store to which your Clarity was towed didn't have the exact tire you need...

The Honda emergency assistance will happily tow you if you have a flat- but only to the nearest Honda service location. When I got my flat, I originally called Honda assistance, and they told me that. I ended up cancelling and calling AAA because Honda was 20 miles away and the tire place was 2 miles. (Plus I got my flat outside my kids swimming lesson and staying local allowed me to get it taken care of while they had their lesson vs having to get a ride for me and the kids to Honda since two kids + me can't ride along in the tow truck.)

Got the tire replaced. Somehow my HV range dropped 5 miles so wonder if/how they managed to turn ICE on. On the other hand, I asked them to charge it and they did.

I fully read the owners manual over the past couple days and it had little to no info on spare tire. I never even thought to inquire on this....

So the car doesn't have a spare at all? Is that just a little electric compressor and they expect your flat to be just a small leak and keep it inflated till you can get a plug installed? That would be pretty important info for me, certainly even more so if my wife is out driving.

Correct. No spare. If it's a serious flat you need a tow (by a truck with a platform).

The insurance question was more for getting the AAA membership for towing....
