I have a big crack in my windshield of my Clarity. I called the dealer and they are quoting $1025 for part and $250 for labor for replacement! Is it ok to use non-OEM windshield for clarity? I'm worried because of Honda sensing.

Mydash423, you might want to check with your insurance. Many states have required that car insurance companies cover damages to windshields with no deductible. I know KY works that way. This way you can use the dealer and have peace of mind that they won’t mess up the sensors for the Honda Sense. Hope that can work out for you.

My understanding is that all the windows in the Clarity are made of a special laminated sound-insulated glass. You can see that when you open the doors look at the edges. This type of glass is generally found only on the most high end luxury and sports cars. In other words, fancy glass means very high prices. It probably won't be a good idea to replace it with a non-OEM glass, if you can even find it. Much of the materials to build the Clarity are ultra-premium (i.e., found only in cars costing at twice as much) so I fear that our insurance rates will go up once a bunch of insurance claims are made.

TOTALLY agreed and same for Florida. Highly recommended you go with OEM parts on this vehicle.

Safe-Lite Repair does OEM windshields here in Texas. I dont' know if they are in your state.

My ins has a special deductible for windshields $500

I used to work for a windshield repair company back in the day. Replacement cost comes down to supply and demand.

In new vehicles there is sometimes little to no supply of OEM glass for a particular window of a vehicle. At least for a while.

For example, when the first Ford Escape came out, that little triangular window in the side rears used to cost over $4,000CDN for about 8 months after the Escape was released. They rarely broke so nobody manufactured spares.

We always laughed when a customer would come in saying they broke the tiny window to get their keys locked in the car because they didn’t want to break a big window that would be ‘expensive to replace’. Lol. For comparison, the driver and passenger side windows were $120 to replace + labour because we could grab a non-Escape window that had the exact same specs.

Got a big crack in windshield on my 6 week old Clarity. Called dealer as concerned about how to manage the Honda Sensing camera. Will be $2100cdn plus $300 installation! Have $500 deductible insurance, but fortunately have "disappearing deductible" option, so I won't be out of pocket for cost.

    Sorry to hear that.
If there is no visible impact mark from a rock or some object, could you get it covered under warranty? Was this due to road rash or just spontaneous? It has been know to happen when there was a flaw in the glass and temp change stresses it to failure. Just a thought.

We had to replace the front windshield on our 2018 Odyssey, which is the same material as my Clarity - went OEM with dealer because not only a supply and quality of material issue, they have a lot of work "re-aligning" the ACC camera up front - and although Safelite gave me a lower bid for OEM glass, when I asked about the camera re-alignment that was a $600 add-on, so price came nearly identical (I think Safelite was actually taking it back to the dealer to do it anyway).

We had our Clarity since March. This week, noticed a small line, then realized it was a crack, kept getting longer as the car was driven. We thought at first it was something that hit it, and called Safelite for replacement but they could not figure out the windshield replacement type and they tried to contact Honda and we never heard a thing. Then we took a closer look at the crack and realized there was NO impact and you could NOT feel it from the outside or inside, thus it was a defect for sure. Took it to the Honda dealership today and they agreed and will replace the whole thing at no charge to us plus get a new molding but it will be a few days. Arranging for a loaner from them as well since the car cannot be driven without it getting worse and possibly shattering.

So this turned into the worst soap opera ever. Car windshield still not fixed. Honda said their inspector found a point of impact and are not responsible after all. This, after the car sat their at their service department for 4 days. Back to Safelite. Safelite says they can't use Honda's parts, they have to order it themselves. HUH??? So then they drop the ball for another couple of days. Today, we spoke to the parts manager and he said it may not be in till next week but he will try to expedite it. Now we are raising hell with Alllstate about this since they are partners. Also requesting a rental. This is week 3 we're going on. Stay tuned.

Is Safelite saying they're going to install a windshield made by someone other than Honda? I'd be surprised if there is an alternative supplier of an acoustic-glass windshield for this rather new, low-production vehicle.

I just had a large object strike and break my windshield. When my insurance company checked, they said there were no windshields made by someone other than Honda. The Honda dealer had to order one and told me there was only one available in the US and I guess they had it shipped to them because I am scheduled to have it replaced on July 31. I have $500 deductible insurance and was told the windshield with parts and labor and with labor to recalibrate the camera behind the windshield comes to almost $1900. So good luck with your replacement.

Wow this thread is scaring me. You know how it goes. New cars attract rocks, like a magnet. My last new car (Honda Fit) got cracked two weeks after I got it -- then no cracks after that for 7 years.

I'm going to avoid getting near dump trucks like my life depends on it. They are the worst offenders.

Isn't glass usually covered under comprehensive coverage?
I thought the comprehensive deductible was small or zero.
    Have to check.

Yes, in some states. Not mine.

Finally after a month of waiting for a windshield to arrive here, it came in. The total cost to replace it with tax was $2101.94 which is going to make my insurance company very unhappy. I have $500 deductible so it cost me $500.

It may be useful for this car to get windshield, glass, wheel, tire insurance that is available in some places. At least before they find out they have to charge a lot more than other cars. I know someone who got it for their truck, had two cracked windshields, both fully covered.
