HV software update and new Insight

    All,

    I just had the HV software update done on my car. Took about an hour which included the multipoint inspection, a wash and a 4 mile test drive. Before the update, I had about 1/4 tank of fuel and the HV range said 336 miles. After the update it said 116. Much closer.

    While I was there, I of course wandered through the showroom and they had several 2019 Insights on the floor. A really nice looking car. Compared to an Accord Hybrid, 5 mpg more and almost $9000 less on the sticker. I was looking at an EX, so cloth seats, but overall quite impressed. Here is a photo of the window sticker.

    Love the look of the new Insight. I was really hoping it would be a PHEV though. If I was in the market for a Prius beating hybrid, this would be it. ..but after driving the Clarity in almost 100% electric mode it’s hard to go back to anything less.

    Compare the Insight's ~1 kWH battery being moved into position below the rear seat with the Clarity PHEV's 17 kWH battery and you can easily understand why an Insight PHEV wasn't in the cards.

  5. Exactly, unfortunately the insight is not designed to accommodate a larger battery.

    Crash test results missing (on sticker)?

    My Clarity, purchased in January, didn't have the Crash Test results on the sticker, either. I don't know if they even available now.

    That's holding us back on both!

    The Honda Civic, in contrast, has top ratings in ALL areas tested by both NHTSA and IIHS!

    Having suffered a near t-bone crash going 70mph crash in a 2015 Honda Fit when a young teenager pulled out in front of me trying to get to the center median at the last second and walking away with minor bruising to the ribs, I can attest that Honda, even in their low end cars, are built for safety. The car crumpled, as it should during a high speed crash, absorbing most of the energy before it reached the passenger compartment. Airbags deployed as it should have with no issues. That's why I went back with Honda on my replacement vehicle.
