Hmmm, the "Holy Grail" is a term we used for a hypothetical super battery back on the old TheEEStory forum, too. Is it a term of art?
I would have to imagine you're asking rhetorically but yeah something deemed missing or just that everyone's in search of. I would imagine most all of the EV enthusiasts here would consider current batteries adequate for their own conversion whereas solid state (or some other technological leap) might be necessary for the last of the mainstream skeptics/ holdouts. and would just be icing on the cake for those who consider themselves all-in already. my ultimate goal is to convert an s-10 blazer and based on the factory dimensions and what tesla has said about their own battery pack installations I'm thinking 60kwh / 75 max is what mine could hold with the same below-the-floorboard configuration. with the promised potential of SS batteries I feel like it be light-years ahead.
Well actually, I was wondering if you had picked that up from TheEEStory forum, or from some other conversation, or if you independently chose to use that very appropriate term. I know there are at least two people posting here who were regulars on TheEEStory forum; WalksOnDirt and myself. I would not be surprised if there are others. No big deal, just idle curiosity on my part. WOW! You certainly an ambitious goal! I haven't read about anybody doing a below-the-floorboard conversion EV; that's going to be quite a project. Although we have a Battery Breakthroughs thread for emerging energy storage technologies, there is a lot of news out there concerning solid state batteries in particular, since they seem to be the most promising next big thing. We already have a number of threads touching on them, so I'll merge them into this one.
