    Hi,

I would like to add a lock to the glove box for my Clarity. Anybody try this yet?

Not to the glove box. But we did put a small lock box in the center arm rest which is cabled to the floor.

Oooo... details? I was also thinking of putting a lock box down in the well under the trunk. In a smash and grab I don't think a thief is even likely to know that extra space is down there, especially with the plastic trunk mat in place. I just need to figure out how to cable lock it down there somehow.

(I often carry firearms so securing them properly is really important to me -- and society in general)

I have under seat boxes but with the Clarity Touring power front seats there is no room for a lock box, even a box that's only 2" tall. I tried to find one of the special boxes that are tailor made for center consoles but none were available for the Clarity.

The center compartment is small so we had to buy a quite small lock box. Fortunately our main concealed carry pistol is the Sig Sauer P238 which is small, and just barely fits in the box. In fact it won't fit with the extended 7 cartridge magazine installed but that's not a problem because, according to California law, we can't keep the clip in it anyway.

There are certain places where we can't carry, like Federal buildings or school grounds. So the pistol has to be locked up. No box is 100% secure and the law does not specify details, just that it has to be locked. CA law does state that a locked glove box or center console is not legal for storing firearms.

We thought about the trunk but my wife doesn't want to have to stand outside the car handling her pistol. She could be seen by kids, and it could be raining. The center console made more sense.

We are actually more concerned about kids getting at pistols. All of our guns are in locked safes around the house. We never leave the guns in the cars at home. The box is just for short term storage, an hour or less typically.

For the Clarity we drilled a hole in the bottom of the console, ran the included cable through it, and bolted it to the floor.

The box we bought is this one. https://www.amazon.com/Helix-Personal-Safe-Tether-61019/dp/B000GOYCYU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1532544969&sr=8-2&keywords=helix+lock+box

Cable must be inserted in the slot in the box.

Thanks for the pics. May I suggest grommets for the drill hole? Would this lock box fit in the glove compartment?

    Thanks in advance Mr. Donald's.
