HV range bug

I've filled up on gas three times in the last five months. After every fillup, the HV mileage range on the dashboard increases dramatically. When I drove the car from the dealer, the range was around 350 or so miles. After the first fillup, it went up past 500 miles. The next time, past 700 miles. The last time, it hit 1000 miles, and even after driving with the gas engine on for many minutes, the range sat on 1000 miles. Now with around a half tank of gas, the range says around 750 miles. The electric range seems to be accurate.

I finally went to the dealer to have them look at it. They said that Honda knew about this bug, but that they didn't have a fix for it.

Has anyone else encountered this problem?

Yes everybody has the same issue. Apparently Honda has admitted this problem and is promising a fix.

Welcome to the Clarity Club of Unlimited HV Milage. As jdonalds said, it’s a universal problem that is well discussed in several threads on this forum. The general consensus and assumption is that the algorithm is not distinguishing between EV and HV miles and so wildly inflates the estimate if you’ve done a lot of EV recently.
And someone posted that Honda has sent out a bulletin to dealers not to replace any parts but to wait for a software up date. And so we wait and wait and....
You can open a ticket wirh Honda as a lot of us have in the hopes that the squeaky wheel will get the grease.

Thanks for the welcome. I tried searching for past threads on this topic, but I apparently didn't enter the right keywords.

I wasn't aware that car owners could open tickets directly with Honda. How can I do that? On the honda.com website? And does Honda actually respond to these tickets?

That bulletin was in May. Having been in the software business, it does not take over a month to fix a bug.

Someone on the Facebook Clarity group just posted Service Bulletin 18-069 dated June 12 that apparently says the software fix is ready. Call your Honda dealer!

Interesting. Why can't this be an over the air update? Also, how are "mere mortals" supposed to find out about this? Why doesn't Honda contact Clarity owners?

I imagine they will contact us, or they are depending on the dealers to do it for them. I don't think any cars except for Teslas are designed for ota updates. Hopefully that changes but traditional car manufacturers are notoriously slow to adopt new things like that.

I guess it is not vital. Hopefully we will all get notifications from dealers.

I have my A1 service scheduled for Friday so hopefully I can get it done then.

We will probably get something in the mail about it but who knows since this is sorta a none critical issue. It would be nice if they sent us a message through the HondaLink app in the car (or on our phones).

  20. Please let us know how the update goes. It bugs me to constantly see something so wrong.

Just called my dealer and gave my service guy the SB # and he said the fix came out on June the 12th. I have an appt at 8:30 tomorrow to have it done. Will try to get any details he has about it and post back.
So the dealer’s have has it for a week and no notice that I’ve heard of.
If not for loomis2 and Demiian I wouldn’t have know. Thanks guys!

I'm set for an appt at Honda for the update tomorrow afternoon. This is really a first-world, minor problem, but I'm really curious to see how it will behave afterward.
