Thanks. That answers my question about how the OEM SE tires rate. I wonder how Hankook's new iON tires for EVs rate? They don't come in sizes that fit MINI Coopers. Without mentioning "grip," here's Hankook's iON tire blurb: iON is a tire exclusively developed for high-performance electric vehicles. Unlike vehicles with internal combustion engines, EVs require lower noise, higher load support, response to a higher torque, and lower rolling resistance. iON perfectly responds to the characteristics of electric vehicles with innovative EV technology and provides optimal driving performance.
Strange that BMW is BMW-ing so many parts on the Mini, and the Mini uses M14 while the BMWs use M12. Just wait until they change the lug bolts to really screw us up.
Looks great! I can’t justify the expense right now, but last night I ordered the black tape from KillAllChrome until I can afford the real thing. Any plans to post a how-to?
It was very easy and straight forward. I watched a YouTube video. I want to order a few things from killallchrome. Trying to pace myself. you should remove them, then wrap them, then reinstall. I think that would make a much cleaner install of the vinyl. I thought about that but just wanted the OEM. I got them online for $500 plus shipping.
BMW hasn’t used M12 since e90 e82etc it’s all M14 now. Don’t forget the fwd platform under pins the x1,x2 and whatever else is fwd based. X7 might use a larger bolt I’m not 100% sure I’ll ask my apprentice only reason why I bought two F5x mini is because it’s an actual bmw product now. Not a hodgepodge of PSA, Rover, BMW
At work, I have a 1/2" drive 250ftlb torque wrench. I also have steel bar with a female 1/2" one end, male 3/4" the other end. Twice the length of my torque wrench: 3x torque. Above that, I usually work in ft-techs. I calculate how long a bar I need to hang off. We do have a hydraulic torque wrench, but it only goes up to 2000ftlb and is a pain to use. It is nice for undoing medium size bolts.
Lol yeah a multiplier with a bar is the next step up from a BFTW. I think our multiplier is rated to 1000 lbf⋅ft but we don’t have (or need) a bar that gets us to that! I suppose we could get a gear-reduction set, but for how often we need the rig we have, it’s not worth it.
The Hankook website is really slow-loading (and poorly designed from a linking standpoint), but here are the specs on the smallest ION tires they make: ION evo: ION evo SUV: I wish tire makers would stick with the EU label graphic, but B/A/69db (or A/A/69db) is really good.
The "B" fuel-efficiency rating for a tire designed specifically for EVs doesn't sound really good to me when compared to the SE's non-iON Hankooks' "A" rating.
At least now I know why the vinyl tape I ordered on the 9th and that was dispatched on the 11th still isn’t showing in Royal Mail’s online tracking… https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64291272
Just dropped the car off to get tinted this morning. I am waiting on the spacers to arrive from KillAllChrome hopefully Monday. Lowering is in the works also.
Yes and at a decent priced shipped from the UK compared to ECS. I know some guys run the Amazon ones but I don't want to have issues to save a little.
Shipped from the UK? Expensive on a regular day. Indefinite delays now with the ransomware attack. ETA: KillAllChrome “shipped” my vinyl stripe kit ten days ago; it’s sitting at a Royal Mail facility with all the other delayed international parcels.
Fortunately I selected DHL and even with the shipping it still came out cheaper than ECS spacers. They are clearing customs and shipped a day ago so hopefully they come tomorrow otherwise Monday. I bought a few other bits also. Total shipping was $43 for DHL
It was the BMW DNA and belief that they got the big bugs out with the i3 that got me looking at the SE. The $10,000 in tax credits convinced me to try it. No regrets.
