So who else is about to jump into an i4?

Every review I’ve read has been very positive. It’s a very practical, well priced, family sports sedan.

We will miss you in the SE forum, but this would give me a good reason to also follow the i4 forum.

In fact, I might even drive up to Phoenix for a ride!!!

I would prefer red brake calipers, but I’m an old guy. Other than that, your i4 is absolutely gorgeous. What does BMW call that color?

To me the i4 didn’t have the “special factor.” It was a 4 series. I didn’t get a sense of occasion that some other EVs have. On my drive it seemed like a very nice 4 series though.

 

Get/keep both . They're different enough. Have a deposit down on the M50 since Nov 21 and our SE is at the port in Southampton now. We decided we need 2 cars and our 2019 i3 lease was extended by BMW in anticipation of the M50 eventually arriving.

 

Seriously considering the ¡4 eDrive40; I test drove the M50 (great performance) but don’t think I need the added performance ( I live in a non-snow location). Also, this keeps the BMW RWD driving Dynamics which I like. P.S. also have a reservation for the ‘23 Polestar 2 AWD (whichever makes it here first).

I just ordered an i4 eDrive40. Portimao Blue with Oyster leather, M Sport, etc. I just could not justify the extra expense, extra weight and reduced range of the M50 and, frankly, as much fun as a three and a half second 0-60 time is from time to time, it is more of a party trick than a truly useful feature. Just my view of course, your mileage may vary. Looking forward to delivery in late September/early October

 

I agree with the party trick comment. If you don’t need the AWD for snow or towing, the i4 40 is a better driver. Just curious, how did you manage to get yours in such short waiting time. If I reserve the i4 now, my dealer here in Florida can only promise delivery 8 months from now …… I need the tax credit for this year (‘22).

 

I live in North Carolina. My brother has bought 3 BMW’s from the dealer in Raleigh and really liked them so I reached out to them (I live in Charlotte but not wild about the ownership group in Charlotte). They have a no mark-up policy on all cars they sell. They put me on a wait list for their next allocation. As best I understand it, they get an allocation from the factory for 2 or 3 cars at a time. Once they get the allocation they go down their waitlist. I was third (I think) on the wait list and they got an allocation of 3 cars about 2 weeks after I plunked down my deposit. Part of this was just lucky timing. We then immediately solidified the build sheet and they ordered it. They said it should be built at the end of this month or early next month. After that it is shipping, which they say has been taking around 6 weeks but is getting quicker (normalizing) each month.

 

I have both now. I prefer the MINI SE for urban driving because it can fit anywhere and it’s fun to toss around. The i4 with adaptive suspension is buttery smooth and quiet. It’s more of a luxury cruiser.

 

I spend a lot of time on Inside EVs' MINI Electric forum complaining that an electric car doesn't need a fake hood scoop (I had mine eliminated). I wish BMW didn't feel it necessary to burden their electric cars with a giant, fake, ICE-like, dual-kidney grille (don't tell me it's not a fake grille--it could be tiny and more aerodynamic).

Car and Driver photographer James Lipman figured out the best way to photograph BMW's M4 ICE car with the help of his dog, Lemon (named after Detroit Tigers baseball great, Chet Lemon).

 

So today I went and test drove an i4. Really liked the car but had the dealership screw up the deal. They were demanding that I buy an aftermarket interior and exterior "protective" product at the cost of $2180. They tried to claim I couldn't opt of it AND that I had to finance the car with BMW. They would not accept CASH!

 

If BMW made the i4 as a station wagon I would have ordered one to replace my A6 Avant. I don’t like SUV’s I can’t wait for someone to make an EV station wagon.
