I went for Thunder + Pilot package, with AWD. I was originally thinking of getting the FWD version with better efficiency and range (and $4000 cheaper). However, after test driving the car, the AWD upgrade was just too enjoyable to pass up. Should work a little better when I travel to colder climates as well.

Oh - and the range is plenty, even with AWD. I'm replacing a Niro EV, which has an EPA range of 239 miles, and that range never felt limiting to me. This car has 249 miles.

Forgot to post here earlier, but my car has already arrived in port in late April and is scheduled for delivery in May. :)

Considering the AWD Magnesium, Zinc embossed textile, and the Pilot package. Don’t care about glass roof if there is no shade to it, and prefer the 19” wheels. Wonder if the interior would be too dark?
If I order it now, I was told to expect delivery in October-November time frame …. Is this to be believed? I HAVE to get it before the end of year for tax purposes. The closest Polestar dealer is 99 miles away, and was told they cover up to 150 miles range.

I'm pretty confident that if you order now you'll receive the car by end of year. I had the same thought on the glass roof - to me it doesn't make any sense because I don't plan to seat people in the back of the car with any regularity - and it benefits them more than the driver/front passenger.

If you can justify it, I would suggest making a reservation to test drive the car at some point before finalizing the order - but no reason you can't place the order before then. The $500 deposit is refundable as long as you haven't finalized your order yet, which occurs just before delivery.

Last thing - all repairs are performed by Volvo. How far away is the nearest Volvo? In the event that you have an issue with your car, how convenient will it be to bring in the car to get looked at? I think this is definitely something to consider before making your final decision on the purchase.

Anyway, if you've decided on the configuration, it's pretty safe to just place your order now, to ensure that you take delivery as early as possible.

Thanks for the update! I called the nearest Polestar dealer earlier today and was told that any orders now will be for the 2023 model year. I was also told that aside from transportation, tax and registration, all Polestar dealers add $989 for dealer prep and $375 for some mysterious local.
Yes I live close to a Volvo dealer here in town; and if they do repairs there, then this would be great.

Those don't sound like markups I had to pay for. Out of curiosity, I tried ordering the car you described from my local Polestar space. This is everything. I'm curious which polestar space you tried to order from - I've heard that different spaces may or may not charge markups. Mine does not.

Mine is Ft. Lauderdale space. total out of door is $61,994. Sales tax here is 7%
I confirmed with my local Volvo dealer that they do service / repair for Polestar.
    I did make a reservation.

Not any worse than what you'll pay elsewhere, then. I guess I pay more sales tax and you pay more miscellaneous fees. lol

Frankly, I placed the $500 deposit for the Polestar 2 as an insurance against missing out on the EV tax credit again this year. Last year Audi promised delivering the Q4 before the end of year …… they lied!
Will travel to Ft. Lauderdale for a test drive of the Polestar soon; I’m concerned about the center console intrusion into the driver’s space and how crammed the interior in general (I know the dual motor performance is great).

It's definitely not for everyone. From what I can tell, the car's interior is designed to be a "driver's car" as opposed to a family/luxury car. You can still put a family in it, but it's definitely not trying to be a standout with respect to interior space or luxury. For me, it was appealing because I've always been interested in performance cars but never had the money for one until now. I prefer sedan-styled cars, and most of the alternatives are way too expensive. The model 3 is the only sedan in a similar price range, but thanks to all the price increases, it's now about $10,000 more than the Polestar 2 (when including the tax credit). Plus, they are quite ugly looking IMO.

Agree with all points, if I go with this car, it’ll replace a 2013 Merc E350 coupé (so not losing space). I’ll always have an ICE car for when I’m outrunning hurricanes here in south Florida (you don’t want to spend time charging an EV in the middle of it).

  15. If I was forced into charging in a hurricane, wouldn't the "middle" be the best place?
After picking up a quick DC boost, just follow the eye:D

Had my test drive this morning; they delivered a dual-motor car, with the Pilot and Plus options, to my driveway for a half hour drive. I mostly liked the car a lot with few exceptions. The driving and chases performance are great. Ergonomically, there is one issue that might be a game buster for me; the center console is intruding into the driver’s right knee, making it awkward to comfortably use the accelerator. Also, in terms of value, I find it hard to justify at $62K you still have to spend an extra $4K for a decent leather interior.

I’ll keep my reservation for the Polestar as I look for elusive alternatives: Audi Q4, Genesis GV60, IONIQ 5 Limited ……… BMW EVs are too ugly to consider.

I cut the cost back a bit by skipping the Plus package. It felt unnecessary because I live in a warm climate with a mild winter. After taxes, it came out to $62k. With the tax credit, it will end up at $55k.

The Ioniq 5 seems to cost just as much when including the dealer markups. Ioniq 5 Limited MSRP = $55,000, with $10k in dealer markups, I think it will end up costing more than the Polestar 2.

I took delivery of my Polestar 2 on May 11th. It arrived earlier than expected!

Congrats on your new ride! Am sure you’re enjoying the bay area in this driver’s car. Could you give a brief impressions; Particularly, do you feel the center console interferes with your driving leg / knee, or is it my imagination after I drove the car?

  20. You have just described why so many of us shopping for our next EV won't consider KIA/Hyundai/Genesis.

Not everybody has the same body shape/type, but for me, it's no problem. I'm a relatively thin guy (160 lbs) at 6 ft with long legs. I ended up bringing the seating position back fairly far from the pedals to make driving comfortable. But overall, I am pretty satisfied with my comfort as a driver.

Specifically regarding the center console - I barely notice it to be honest. It's definitely a more enclosed driving experience than my Kia Niro EV, and I have to sit in a different position as a result. But the difference in driving experience far outweighs any small negatives there, at least from my experience so far.

I've read things online about some people having problems with their Polestar shortly after taking delivery, and needing to take it in for repairs as a result. While I verify that my car doesn't have any defects, I'll be holding onto the Niro as a spare vehicle for a few months before selling it, in order to avoid relying on a loaner.

Anyway, I did drive my Niro again yesterday after driving the Polestar and was blown away by the difference in the driving experience. The Polestar drives in a really refined, smooth, planted manner. The Niro drives in a jerky, unrefined manner by comparison.

Don't get me wrong, the Niro EV is still a great car, but I feel really satisfied with my purchase so far. The only thing I've noticed is that the windows squealed a bit the first few times I rolled them up and down. However, after driving the car for a few days, the noise seems to have gone away on its own.

Placed my order on May 5 and the reservation website indicates two delivery dates: October and Mid September; I got the Vin# from the Space contact in Ft. Lauderdale. Hope all goes according to plan because, with the new passed bill in Congress, this’ll be the last opportunity to get the $7,500 tax credit for ‘22 on the Polestar. Cars assigned to Ft. Lauderdale arrive at ports in Georgia, near Savannah, and it takes two weeks from arriving at port and delivery to Polestar Space.

I just received the following email from Polestar …… not very encouraging!

    Dear Tony,

As you are likely to have seen, yesterday President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act. The passing of this health and climate bill amended the structure of the Federal Electric Vehicle tax credit, and as a result the Polestar 2 no longer qualifies. As far as we know, this has had no impact on any state or utility incentives the Polestar 2 may be eligible for.

We are sending you this email today to let you know that Polestar values your business and understands that the amendment to the tax credit may impact your ordering decision.

For those who are eagerly awaiting their Polestar 2, we have immediately amended our offer structure. In particular, we have revised our lease offers to help keep payments competitive, and well below the cost of operating a traditional gasoline-powered vehicle.

For those of you who were relying on the Federal Electric Vehicle Tax credit as a criteria to take delivery of your Polestar, we are understanding and supportive if you wish to cancel your order – be it now or later once the tax laws have fully clarified by the IRS. Your Polestar Space can assist you with a refund of your deposit.

Polestar is fully committed to a brighter, cleaner future propelled by electromobility, and we hope that you will join us on this journey.

    With kind regards,

    -Polestar Automotive USA, Inc.
