Sometimes my doors when I walk away and sometimes they do not. I don't understand what causes them not to lock.

It's great that we're finally seeing Ioniq 5 topics not focused on scarce availability or exhorbitant pricing.

Have you seen the Ioniq 5 Digital Owners Manual? I wasn't pleased when I tried to search for "lock" or when I searched for "door" because only the charging door comes up. I prefer searchable PDF owners manuals to interactive ones, but this one is pretty slick for second-best.

Here's another link to a protected PDF (I can't download the PDF file) Ioniq 5 Owner's Manual, but I couldn't find anything about walk-away door-locking, just automatic unlocking.

I've got the PDF downloaded but it's too big to upload. I opened it with Preview (MacBook) and printed it as a PDF and the size was reduced quite a bit but still 56.1MB is too big. ‍♂️ Page 228 speaks to auto locking while in the vehicle (removed from park or over 9mph/15kmh) but that's it when searching for "auto."

I notice automatic locking only after it has automatically UNlocked (walking past the car), and I then walk away (without having ever opened a door).

This just happened this morning on my way past the I5 to get to my other car.

For some unknown reason they seem to work most of the time when the car is in the garage???????

So the no open re-lock many manufactures have been doing for years and Hyundai does as well. You could ask (chat) Peter, a content specialist in Canada, on his next or last (today) IONIQ 5 live stream your question in brief form. Peter can tell you if Hyundai ever has and possible try an IONIQ 5 out to see if it does. I honestly don't recall in any of his videos any Hyundai or KIA he is reviewing ever re-lock.

I believe that John is correct, it only locks when you walk up to the drivers door and it unlocks, then walk away without ever getting in.

I was at a do it yourself car wash the other day and as I worked my way around the car it kept unlocking and re-locking! I finally put the key on a shelf to keep it from doing it.

As stated above, the Ioniq 5 automatically unlocks the doors when you walk by. If you walk away without opening a door, it will relock itself. If you don't want it to do this while you're washing your car (for example), just open then close a door manually. This will stop the auto unlocking until you manually lock the car (via the fob, door handle, or bluelink).
