The innovative direct-to-customer sale approach taken by EV pioneers like Tesla may change the way people buy their vehicles forever. I'm talking about is the death of the dealerships. And I am all for it!

Dealerships tend to be home to the lowest scum of the Earth. One major factor that keeps me from buying a new vehicle my fear of having to deal with the scum at the dealership. Every time I go to a dealership (and I rarely do), I'd have to take a long shower afterward. That includes service, parts, as well as sales department. They all lie and cheat and try to blow smoke up my ***. I have never had a good experience at a dealership.

As much as I would want to buy a Ford F-150 Lightning, I would not buy one because I would have to go through a dealership. And many of dealerships now pulling the good old shenanigans trick: they're adding huge ADM (Added Dealership Markup) to the MSRP of the trucks! Some dealerships even add as much as $30,000 to the price tag because of the high demands for the new electric F-150!

Ford should get rid of those sleazy dealership for EV customers. If Ford and all other EV manufacturers can or would be willing to do this, there would be a bigger boost in sales.

  3. In general I would agree about the dealership experience with two exceptions. The Hyundai dealer service department in West Allis, WI I dealt with on a road trip and our Audi Nashua dealer here locally for my wife’s car. Otherwise I wouldn’t shed a tear if they disappeared.

Just bought my first new car (Mini SE) and I was terrified of what the experience would be like: high pressure, strong arming, hidden fees that come up last minute, sleazy negotiating, etc.

But my experience at the MAG Mini dealer in Columbus OH was anything but that. Walked in the pick up the car, signed a couple pieces of paper for the MSRP, they offered a couple add one, which was easy to say no to (ie low pressure/no pressure).

A few hiccups due to the chip shortage, but nothing the dealer could do about that issue.

A great experience. I am assuming this is not the norm though…

My Tesla experience was drive up in trade-in. Just swap papers and turnover keys. Headed home in 30 minutes.

Your experience is the same I've had with a couple of MINI dealers, so maybe their network is run better? They really seem to treat customers like an extended family.

I'm in the process of getting an F-150 Lightning (but I'm not in the first wave :() and so far my experience with the Ford dealer I'm working with has been positive.
