I have had the Taycan Turbo S for over a year now and I'm afraid it is a real disappointment. I had 2 Telsa model S beforehand and have been driving an EV for 7 years. To drive the Porsche is great and the adaptive headlights are second to none. The problems are with the infotainment and Porsche themselves. When you start the car it takes about a minute before the radio works. Car Play works occasionally and Porsche have told me I cannot use Android Auto unless I have a new model car, which is unbelievable. The whole system is not intuitive and is clunky and difficult to use. The voice recognition is virtually useless. The car has also had two recalls for software upgrades and the first time it was in for a week. The biggest problem is Porsche themselves as they know nothing about EV's at the dealership and are unhelpful. The car has to go in now for another software upgrade (which is stopping the car's CCS combo port from working) and they are telling me if I need a loan car while it is in I need to wait until January (It is now 6th Nov). I can only get .4mpm off the standard port and cannot use most charges on that port as they are CCS combo and the driver's side port is not. Porsche are really not bothered. When I had problems with the Tesla they took the car in straight away and as they didn't have a loan car they took me to a car rental company and rented me a car. For a car that costs £150,000 I would expect to be treated better, but Porsche are arrogant and disinterested. My advice would be if you are buying and EV now, but it from someone who only makes EV's like Tesla. I ordered a Lucid Air a year ago and can't wait to get it.
Under TN Lemon Law, if the dealer cannot fix the car, the return for full price kicks in. In that case, the 7 or 8 software fixes qualify as a condition that triggers full payment. It does not matter how many years you have owned the car. It does not mater if you are the second or fifth owner. No bad tittle disclosure is seen in TN. Each state is different.
The dealer told me the mileage rating of 220 from the US Government was BS and that after a few battery charges, the car would jump up and take a charge that would take me at least 280 miles. The Lemon Law attorney told me that this statement qualifies as a financial fraud subject to damages. Each state is different.
The Lemon Law in TN also states that additional charges for paint coverings [$800USD in my case] is also covered. Some provisions of the federal law, like the one stating that repurchases is it the full price or that it does not mater if you are the fifth owner are picked up by each state. Some provisions of the federal Lemon Law are specifically excluded from federal law by state Lemon Law , apparently. All 50 states have State Lemon Laws.
I drove a 2022 Taycan 4 Cross Turismo last week for an hour. I thought it was a great driving car. Where I live, Tesla service is from the next province and the wait for service is not reasonable. I drive 40 - 50 km/day on my commute so 350 kms of range is fine. If you need to rely on Superchargers then Tesla is a better pick - regardless of quality. As to the PCM, anyone buying a new Taycan will find PCM 6 to be quicker and able to support an Android device. Remember, there were lots of things wrong with the Tesla Model S when it first arrived too and current purchasers of that brand (M3, MY, etc) complain of poor paint quality, misaligned panels, detaching bumpers, harsh ride and excessive road noise. Yes, you can theoretically drive farther in a Tesla and it's got a slicker interface (you can play video games), but that is about it. Anyway, if you sell your Taycan and get another Tesla to replace it, that will mean another available allocation for people looking for Taycan. The lineup is getting pretty long.
The OP was right, at the time he posted - the PCM was buggy as all hell and just getting music to play was frequently hit or miss. They had a major update in 2022 that corrected almost all of this, and it's a much better experience now.
