Battery Recall for Canadian Kona Owners

    I was told it costs 10k for the equipment but then another GM at a different dealer, told me Hyundai provides their equipment free.

    They've already admitted to me, that with the little knowledge of the EV I know, I know more then them.
     
  4. Yup. Follow the money. $400 in the dealer's pocket per replacement after they layout $10K+ for the equipment translates into a long term investment on the dealer's part.

    I seen someone else post their battery date, early June. So that makes me believe it's not like they have a stockpile of them .
     
  6. Well got the infamous software test of my battery today, according the the service advisor who was totally unfamiliar with my car thought I passed it. She couldn't tell me if I was cleared of the battery recall. Which I was hoping to hear. The charge levels were changed from 80% to 100%, so based other folks experience here it would imply my battery is somehow good to go and does not require replacement. My car is still listed as having an incomplete recall on the Hyundai site but perhaps that takes a little time to update. I will have to talk to the service manager tomorrow to clarify.

    In further news I guess they heard the driveline "card in the bicycle wheel" chatter I once again complained about as they have ordered a new motor mount. I honestly don't think this will fix it but whatever its only Hyundai's parts and my time they are wasting. Ugh, this car is increasingly feeling like an albatross.

  8. I don't know about the coolant replacement issue, but have an update from my dealer that I wanted to share. The service rep told me that the "lifting table" required to remove and install the battery is in short supply, and that our dealership is 49th on the list to receive one. Wow, never saw or heard anything like this before. When I said OK, but what about getting replacement batteries from Hyundai Canada? Well, no problem she said, that replacement batteries were available. And that once they had received the lifting table, there would be no problem in getting a battery and replacing mine. But, she said, Hyundai Canada would not ship any replacement batteries to dealers who do not already have the lifting table. Well, that makes good sense, I guess. I am to call back in a couple of weeks to get an update on the lifting table availability. So that is the story from the dealer. Will update further if there are developments.

    I was wondering that too about the coolant.
    From the workorder, it looks like they might have put upwards to 4 litres of coolant in there.
    Not surprising about the lifts, cuz im sure GM Dealers will be looking for lifts soon too.
    Unless GM gets smart and sets up centralized locations to get their batteries replaced by ppl that are comfortable and trained doing it. Both Dealers told me, they were almost terrified to change out the batteries. Lol

  11. How the heck do you get detailed invoices like this from your dealership? Every time I go there I get handed a document that shows cryptic, coded messages about what was done (which I usually need to Google to know what was done) and a hand typed summary/description of the work done that is vague and has 7 typos in it. I've never seen the price of any parts being replaced or the price of any work being done on my car, the document just says -WAR- (for Warranty covering the (unknown) costs of the work done). Is this a provincial thing to have to put the $ (or not) on invoices, can I request this?

    I just got a call from my dealer this morning to replace my battery September 30. I never did the stress test and tey told me it's around 3h to swap batteries. (Hyundai Longueuil, Quebec)
     
  14. So, just got my 2021 Kona back from the dealership (the second dealership it was sent to).
    Here is a shot of the new battery label.
    my old battery part number was:
    37501-K4054 BMS ROM ID:6980 2020/11/04
    my new battery part number is:
    37501-K4054AS BMS ROM ID:7040 2021/06/12

    So, what does this mean? There is now an "AS" behind the K4054, not sure what this means.
    Here are some 2022 Kona battery part numbers provided by some members on the thread.

    Obvious differences:
    My battery has an "AS" behind the "K4054" but neither Bill or Christian's does.
    Bill's has a 7040 Rom ID, same as my replacement.
    Christian has 7020 Rom ID.

    I also got the warranty "invoice". Not as detailed as XTSKonaTroopers. but it does show the "cause" as an "internal short".

    Also...it is an "HL GreenPower" battery as well.

    I got the AS model too.
    I'm thinking their reserved for the ASshole customers.
    I'll throw a wrench into it, Mines a 4050AS

    Anyone who got a replacement ask about the $5 a day since June for the inconvenience yet If you don't ask you maynot get it

    I spoke to my local service manager after he’d chatted to a Hyundai rep. They, although not 100% sure, believe that the $5/day is a fuel reimbursement when you are given an ice rental vehicle.

  23. Has anyone heard if Hyundai is extending the battery warranty once it's replaced? I've heard GM is doing that for the Bolt. A fresh start at 160,000 km or 8 years on the battery - or at least the replaced cells, if that was the fix.
