I definitely am interested; it now competes with the Audi Q4 e-tron. I’ll be watching to see if Hyundai sorted out their battery issues; I don’t have a reservation. P.S. I canceled an ID.4 AWD reservation earlier this year after waiting for 5 months! Have not seen any actually delivered, yet.
Now it’s being said it’s not delayed. As planned, IONIQ 5 will still start to arrive at dealerships by the end of the year or Fall. The timing remains unchanged. I'll let Hyundai speak for them selves: "Explore the IONIQ 5 EV. Arriving Fall 2021." "And if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call us at 844-966-3434. Available winter 2021." Fall is September 22, 2021 to December 20, 2021 and Winter is December 21, 2021 to March 19,2022. These quotes are from two emails they sent to reservation holders on 7/29 ("Fall") and 9/10 ("Winter"). If it's "Arriving" in the "Fall" why do we have to wait anywhere from one day to 91 days before they become "Available?" That is as much slack as I can give. Personally I believe they are just playing word games, not listing the MSRP purposely and have absolutely have not communicated clearly in their sparse emails to "insiders." #oxymoron #malecowfeces
Brick'em till you Fix'em seems to have been found in the revised BMS code if there is a hint of issue detected. Stay off the EV fire front page and tell the owners nothing other than it'll be fixed some time in the "Fall" and then revise it to be "Winter" and then "The beginning of 2022."
Well, they aren't using LG batteries in the IONIQ 5, SK Innovations seem to be the battery supplier and is what the Czech Kona EVs used (none of these have any fires). Although I have a 2021 Kona EV, the battery issue had been solved in the factory but I would still hesitate to buy another vehicle using LG batteries - I saw how they dragged things out & finger pointed with Hyundai & doing the same with GM 6 months later (that Bolt line will go down in flames - literally). GM still want to do business with them too! SMH What turned me off of the ID.4 was the charging speed and the software used; still needs improvement - the ID.4 basically uses the same software as the ID.3 which is ... well, lots of YT videos about how laggy it is.
Kyle Conner's seems to think the lag was removed with an update but iD have to see it myself or have a side by side comparison. The Kona battery woes are covered better in the other threads and my summary of them about the BMS update in the Kona omitted the build times it effected. It doesn't seem to be as clear cut as a model year is a quick summary. It's nice to see the IONIQ with a different battery set but I'm not sure I'll ever see one in my excluded state. The iD4 will not charge as fast but I honestly don't frequently road trip so the free charging will go to waist and speed will save me time only a few days of the year.
There are videos out there that show the delay disappearing under Sport drive mode. Another feature that I like is the sailing (0 regeneration) option on the steering wheel’s right paddle: the most efficient highway driving. If I can’t get the car before the end of ‘21, I’m not in a hurry to get it in ‘22 (Tax credit for ‘21, but still get it sometime in ‘22).
At least I'm fairly close to Jacksonville, FL Though, would probably require an overnight stay. But, not sure if I want to buy/lease out of state.
