I would not be surprised to see this happen before the end of this year. And then they will control the world’s largest chip manufacturer.

    https://techwireasia.com/2021/02/the-dominance-of-the-worlds-largest-chipmaker-tsmc/

And Biden and the Dems will just twiddle their thumbs…

Iran is also moving forward again with nuclear bombs.
    https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/uk-france-germany-state-grave-concern-over-iran-nuclear-work-2021-07-06/

And will wait to see what Putin does next… He’s got the EU pipeline in the bag (for future leverage), but he will want more, I’m sure…

This cyber/ransomware attack crap scares me, too. We are all so dependent on technology for everything, and it would cripple us if they killed our communications networks, incl our monetary transaction systems. Markets would crash, for sure, but we wouldn’t even know the extent of what is actually happening.

And this morning markets are not looking good. 10 yr yield drops, bitcoin, growth stocks, value, everything… Supposedly driven by new covid fears, which I don’t totally buy, with all the vaccinations happening here. Might be bad in some other countries, but that should drive even more money to here. Eventually though, all this free money and low interest rates will end.

All this could have quite a dampening effect on EV buying, too.

This is in part why people should actually pay attention to how they use technology. I personally do not store anything in cloud servers and all of my important information is stored in external hard drives. I think crypto currencies could help solve the transaction problem because it is a distributed ledger - pretty hard to mess those up.

Meh. Don't care. This wouldn't really be much of a thing if the Germans didn't idiotically shut down their nuclear power plants.

Good. Maybe then we won't go to war with them. I could not care less about Iran. I'm pretty sure they would be far less pissy at the US if the US stopped starting pointless wars in the middle east and letting the CIA fund literally every terrorist group that has ever existed over there.

meh. most of the Russia concern is massively overblown. They won't bomb Europe. Like I said, this issue could have easily been avoided if Germany didn't shut down their nuclear. They could have spent more time and effort electrifying their industrial heating and commercial/residential heating.

  8. Today, after Biden’s debacle in Afghanistan, China moves another step closer to taking Taiwan. They now know that the US can’t be relied on to support their allies. And not wasting any time to further threaten Taiwan.
    https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/chinese-state-media-says-afghanistan-a-lesson-for-taiwan-on-how-us-abandons-allies/ar-AANnUu6?ocid=uxbndlbing

And you can bet all the world's Jihadies are celebrating today, and planning their next terrorist attacks. China has already said they recognize the new Islamic State of Afghanistan.
    https://thehill.com/opinion/national-security/565460-china-moves-quickly-to-replace-america-in-afghanistan#:~:text=China%20formally%20recognizes%20the%20Afghan%20government%2C%20and%20as,to%20discuss%20Beijing%E2%80%99s%20Belt%20and%20Road%20Initiative%20%28BRI%29.
And this happened at the end of July, likely were already providing support to the Taliban.

And just a few days ago, further reiterated that point. No doubt they want to play a part in supporting US's Jihadi terrorist enemies, just as they have also been doing in Africa.
    https://nypost.com/2021/08/13/china-prepares-to-recognize-taliban-if-it-topples-afghan-govt-report/

It is pretty clear that China wants to become the world dominant power, both economically and militarily. Then they can impose their values and interests as they wish. If that happens, goodbye to freedom and democracy as we know it.

Pulling out of Afghanistan was always going to result in this. It was always going to be a Vietnam 2, which was a major criticism that the anti-interventionist people have always been making. A part of me thinks that the war was artificially extended because neither party wanted to take the political hit for being in power when it happened.

Terror attacks wouldn't be a concern if Western elites weren't obsessed with importing absurd numbers of muslims.

We should do as little trade with China as possible because they are clearly setting themselves up as being an enemy.

  11. Sorry, but I have to object to your broad brush intimation of muslims. I know many muslims, incl some friends, and they don't support or condone the radical Jihadists and terrorists anymore than you or I. In fact, my barber is an Afghani, and he is very, very disturbed by what is happening there in his homeland right now (not just the last couple weeks). He has been back many times, and was encouraged by how the country has changed for the good in the last 20 years, esp re the treatment of women. But now the Taliban are taking over again and he fears for everyone's lives that don't fall in line with their way of life. They are going back to the way it was 20 years ago.

I don't care. Reality disagrees with you. Importing more Muslims only increases Muslim terrorist attacks.

  13. While I am against all terrorism, not just Islamic extremists, but radicals of any religion, color, criminals, domestic, etc., my greater fear is countries that want to take over the world and take away my freedom. That's more the point of my thread here.

Cool that's great, but why import hoards of people from countries that never developed the same culture of freedoms you value? That's just a recipe for disaster. Especially from a culture that produces the most terrorists.

  15. While I agree that we need to be careful not to allow terrorists (and criminals) in, incl just for a visit, most of us are here because we or our ancestors came because of the freedoms offered. Now I think we need to protect those freedoms, and not be complacent about others that may want to take them away.

But I am not a broad brush type of guy. I don't believe in discriminating against anyone because of any particular color, race, religion or whatever. If they want to come here, it should be because they like our country, freedoms and values. And there is room and desire for diversity. We don't all have to be exactly the same.

The most careful thing to do is not to allow anyone who believes in any ideology/religion that conflicts with western values into western nations period - that includes Islam.

Most "refugees" are economic migrants. They couldn't care less about the western conception of freedom. I am against colonialism and mass immigration literally is colonialism. The melting pot is a myth. The idea that 'diversity is a strength' is broad brush painting.

My thinking in this regard is this: if there is enough people within a group that openly represents a threat to me and my people I don't want anything to do with them. 'Not all' doesn't matter. Why? Because no single group in human history has ever had 100% of its members exhibit 100% of the associated traits 100% of the time. Therefore 'not all' is a moot point. Not all the Turks wanted to commit genocide against the Armenians - still happened anyways because enough Turks did. See my point? All the Armenians should have split from the Turks long before that happened. You can't kumbaya fundamental differences between different groups away. It doesn't work. It is insanely irrational to knowingly mix different groups of people who have ideologies/religions that fundamentally conflict. It literally sets the stage for wars in the future.

  17. Well, as you know, we need those types of immigrants to fill low paying jobs that otherwise would go unfilled. This has actually helped the US (and to some extent Canada) become more prosperous. However, it should be done legally. But that is another big can of worms.

Re the US (I'm from Canada), I am more concerned and dismayed by what I see going on down there with crime and potential loss of freedoms. The latter has been the standout example in the world, but that may come to an end if you are moving to a one party rule.

This is what you would call wage suppression - law of supply and demand. Average wages have stagnated because of this. This doesn't help the US in the long run. It just means that more people with expectations of marginally lower than average standard of living are coming in. The idea that these jobs won't be done by americans is just a political fabrication to justify importing millions into the country.

I'm well aware of that. I would argue that the US has been close to a one party state for decades. The biggest loss of freedom has come from increasing government centralization. Your loss of freedom in Canada is far more extreme than here. The UK is even worse. Australia is essentially an actual police state now.

  19. Yes, we don't and never had all the freedoms you have. But the way you are going, that could soon change. At least our elections are still mostly fraud proof. Although they are trying to monkey around with that here, too, now with some new changes.

We have a federal election coming up Sept 20. And I like our parliamentary system better. Less chance of a stalemate, which can be resolved with a new election which can be called at any time. The problem in the US is you guys are in constant election mode, and power is the only thing that matters. And then you have this powerful bureaucracy which is who really calls all the shots.

We also don't have the extreme crime problem you have, although it is getting worse here, too. We have visited most states and major cities in the US over the years, and have seen a big change these last few years. We live just 2 hours from Seattle, and used to go down there often. But after this past year, I think we will stay away. The place we still like is Maui, and we go there pretty well every year, although skipped 2020. But we are booked again for Dec/21. That is one place we still feel very safe. And almost feels at home there in the winter, with so many fellow BCers there at that time.

The US Constitution hasn't actually mattered since Marbury v Madison. (If you aren't familiar with that case, look it up and see how the decision in that case fundamentally reshaped the power dynamics within the US government.) It really is only a matter of time before the whole Constitution is completely subverted. That is, assuming no meaningful action is taken to restore things.
I know some people in Canada and they fill me in on details.

Obtaining and maintaining power is what politics is, so yes it's about power. This is true everywhere. It just doesn't seem like it in countries that are relatively homogeneous. The US is crazy now because of the culture wars. This really isn't the forum to go into detail about what that entails. lol This temps me to create an EV Discord server (https://discord.com/company) - basically a platform that is very easy to communicate on. Voice Chat text and everything lol.

Can't elaborate on this here. lol

I live here and my viewpoints have undergone big changes over the past few years. lol. I don't blame you for not wanting to come here. I actually wish more people to the south of us would have that mindset too. lol

I have been to Hawaii once. Very interesting place. I was with a large group and couldn't explore the island in my own way. I only went to Honolulu. I never realized that so many people from Western Canada traveled there.

  21. While I don't agree with everything you say, you do have my respect. I appreciate your civil responses and trying to use real facts and logic in your posts. And to put up with those who don't.

I saw in your post in the General section that you are 30 years old. That also surprised/impressed me in that you definitely have wisdom beyond your years. Not sure what your job or business is, but my guess is that you must have a legal or business background. Am I way off on that? Also why do you call yourself SouthernDude when you live in WA?

Anyway, I hope you don't get run off this forum by some of the partisan fanatics here. I like reading your posts, and some have opened my eyes further, too. Hang in there.
