Hi everyone! My name is Evan Gao and I'm an incoming MIT Sloan MBA student. My background is in power and infrastructure finance and at Sloan, I am interested in learning about ways to increase the adoption rate of electric vehicles and charging stations as part of the energy transition. Currently, I am going through the customer discovery phase and reaching out to different stakeholders in the space to better understand the different bottlenecks that are preventing widespread proliferation of EVs. If anyone owns or is thinking about purchasing an EV/charging station and wouldn't mind sparing some time to chat more about space, please let me know! I'd love to hear about your experiences (feel free to reach me at [email protected]). Thank you!

    A life committed to efficiency:
    • 1966 VW Microbus - tracking mileage in a composition 'blue book,' any time it was below 28 MPG, I would do a maintenance cycle to get the car back in spec. Carried tools and spare parts below bed.
    • 1991 Camry with manual transmission - my target was 40 MPG and could be achieved.
    • 2003 Prius - 52 MPG staying at 65 mph was easy.
    • 2010 Prius - 54 MPG with wider speed range.
    • 2014 BMW i3-REx - 72 mi EV and 78 mi gas range, at 70 mph.
    • 2017 Prius Prime - 25 mi EV, too short, 56-58 MPG on highway.
    • 2019 Tesla Std Rng Plus Model 3 - 240 mi EV, after +2 years, 50,000 miles, range ~232 mi, -3.3% lost range.

Thanks Bob, for this, would you have any time to chat live (perhaps next week)? Would love to hear more about your experience with purchasing and owning an EV.

Schedules are not always under my control. Perhaps this thread would answer you questions and give others a chance to add their insights.

  6. I don't understand what you're interested in......there's some academic terminology I apparently don't understand. What do you mean by "chat more about space"?
