Alright you lucky dogs whose 2022s are close to delivery - you have homework! Watch and learn how to use the active cruise control system on your new Mini SE. My goal was to provide straight forward instructions which might be more clear than the manual. (hopefully!)

    Topics covered:
    • Nappa leather steering wheel (heated)
    • Piano black control buttons
    • Active cruise control (including HUD display)
    • Speed LIMiter function

If I remember correctly, I believe you were the one that questioned why I had to have ACC. And now you like it. Glad you do. I will never be without it since I got it on our Honda CRV. Was suppose to be on our 2015 Chevy Impala, as I had used it on rental cars. Dealer made mistake on what the Chevy had.

I've tried this feature out and I did not realize the round button set the speed as current speed! Thanks!

Not me! I was very enthusiastic to get ACC from the start. I just find that I don’t use it as much as I expected to due to the one pedal driving working so well.

GvilleGuy, you are correct, It was insightman in Ann Arbor Mi that said:

Guess I was thinking of twisty roads in South Carolina.

Sorry about the mix up. Enjoy your videos, keep them coming.

Would the Mini SE load a software update affecting driving controls on its own? I've detected a change in behavior on active cruise control. As I've reported in the past, if the camera system lost tracking (sunlight low on horizon and flashing shadow conditions) it would pop a message on the central display and the instrument cluster about the active cruise being disabled. You would have to acknowledge an "OK" on the central display.

Twice this week, while using ACC, it suddenly popped a message only in the instrument cluster saying "vehicle detection degraded". When it happened today, the sun was NOT low on the horizon, but there were tree shadows flashing by. I have not seen this particular message before this week, and the confirmation message did not appear on the central display like it used to. Today there was no car behind me, so I just waited to see what would happen. The cruise indicator on the instrument cluster remained "on", and the Mini came to a complete stop.

I just thought it was odd that the software seems to have changed. And I'm not terribly impressed with the overall performance of the ACC compared to other cars we have with adaptive cruise. The follow distance features are fine, but it loses active tracking too often.

Thats how my recent 2022 seem to operate. A degradation notice is displayed on the HID and the cruise control kicks of. Have to reactivate to turn it back on, resume doesn't do it for me. After reactivation it seems to remember the previous settings. I've seen it degrade by sun and once I dunno, it was cloudy.

It seems to work OK for me, but the camera sensors and software are no where near as solid as my Jeep's RADAR based system. The only thing that slows that down is when the RADAR is covered with snow/ice or you are passing by an air base where they are testing jammers :).

There are over-the-air updates to the car, that's a possibility. It could be a coincidence that it was sent out near the same time the phone app was updated.

I've never read the slightest hint that MINI can perform over-the-air software updates to their vehicles. I believe MINI would trumpet that capability if they had it.

Wait, I just read more than a hint. Perhaps they did update the ACC.

I was thinking of the issue where BMW disabled CarPlay for everyone because of a server mistake, but that link is great. I added it to the Software Updates thread.

I'll report back if I ever see my original condition happen again with the message on the central display. But, it would appear there may have been an OTA. Thanks for the information!
