SO I cannot lay my hand on EM11, but I did find JM03. There are several one sided connectors up under the dash above the drivers left knee, pushed into black plastic hangers. They are just terminations, and one of them is JM03 with three brown wires and a bunch of grays. So that is a convenient pickup point for the reverse signal

  3. so, is one of these wires the magic vess defeat wire? Otherwise I don't get how it helps.

Seems this is a blue wire with a black stripe right?

Not hassling you but it seems that we are going to have to tap into a wire somewhere unless you discover that I was wrong and the wire actually makes it to the switch panel connector.

I would like to buy the panel with all 4 buttons, but is there a left hand drive country that has the vess defeat? The panel is not the same between lhd and rhd.

    So, it is done.

First, it must be a momentary switch, if you use a latching switch it will revert to on. That is why there is a light indicator coming from the box, the pushbutton toggles the state of the VESS box active/inactive. So, power the car, push the button and the VESS is off until you restart the car[or push the button again]. SO if you need to back out of your condo complex spot you can push the button before putting it in reverse, and it will shut it up, and you can leave it off[forward and reverse are silenced] or just push it again and have it be normal for the rest of the trip.

Sadly my relay idea will not work.
Nor can you just put a jumper between pin 9[blue/black] and ground[I used pin 24 of connector M26], as it must be a momentary contact.

An idea for a circuit is rattling around my head to 'just' have it not beep in reverse, or beep once, but electronics is not my forte, so I may need to seek assistance. A pair of one shots and a relay......dunno
I have pics and will post a thread later, but I have other things to do.

Me too. So far the ones I've found have headlight leveling (for LED lights) and/or don't have the lane keeping assist button. There's a version of the cluster that has a 12V battery reset button, that if is momentary might work if wires on the connector are sorted.
For the PHEV there's a version of the button cluster for charge cable auto- lock/override charge schedule that also has a fuel door release button. If that's momentary, it might make for an OEM-look install (with new label, of course)
If anyone learns more, please report!

I hadn't thought about the non E versions of the switch panel. I have a feeling it is not going to be a simple swap. It occurs to me that the confusion that Greg found is due to for instance, the Federal Eniro uses the PHEV pc board with the switch deleted or some foolishness that would be hard to figure out from this end.
If you own the car, drill a hole in it and mount a nice switch.
    No one cares.
Right now mine is just squished in the panel gap until I figure what to do with it

  8. What is Federal? I guess I have lived a sheltered life... you mean USA?

Yeah, I actually might add the components to the existing board and make the dummy switch work. The issue would be it would niggle me to not have the indicator light, so need a cap with the ability to have the LED shine through.

I'm seeking the switch cluster shown in this video (with dimmer, LKA, traction control, VESS and blind spot detection buttons) haven't found how to order

Full part number would be greatly appreciated. Should start with 93700-G5

Yes a Federal car is a car made to conform to the regs etc. Then there is a California car, which is above and beyond, but not so much anymore.

Yes a parts manual is frequently as valuable as a service manual. They don't appear to have one. They seem to need your VIN to order parts, so if someone with a LHD EU car could 'lend' you their VIN maybe your could order the part

That switch looks different from the switch on our cars, I am not sure if there is a straight cross

From what I can find there's only one cutout footprint for the various LHD versions of the switch, and one physical connector for the back. Not 100% sure if switches with the same functionality have the same pin assignments at the connector, but I suspect they do.

I found an easier way to unplug the VESS speaker. On my 2020 Kia Niro Phev I spread the two pieces of plastic under the hood latch with some large deep well sockets or something that will spread it far enough to get your hand in. I could then stick my hand in and push the top of the plug where the clip releases it then unplug it. Do it on a hot day because the plastic will bend easier. NO MORE NOISE POLLUTION!!!

One other way is to remove the black plastic piece under the hood latch but the screws are marked with paint so anyone can look and tell it has been tampered with. If you own the car I guess that doesn't matter though.

Did you guys turn the switch off on the fuse panel when you did this? And did you also remove the negative terminal from the battery before doing this?

    No
There is not power to this circuit with the car off

Thank you rsb515 for that idea! I hate so much there is no volume, I have to reverse out my driveway very early some mornings.
