Hello All: I'm new to this blog, but have been watching EVs and Hybrids for years. I have always wanted an electric car. I had hoped to try a Volt, but it was never marketed in the SE Coastal SC area, despite many other electrics around here. I have range anxiety, so a BEV is a non-starter for me. I have looked at the specs of emerging PHEV's, especially the BMW 530, but 14-16 miles electric is not enough to interest me. BUT, it appears that an interesting car is finally on the near horizon: the Honda Clarity PHEV, with around 42 miles of EV range (17 kwhr Bat.) before the ICE kicks in, expected around 12/1/7. I am looking forward to test driving one. I would appreciate any insights or info the group has on this car. THANKS
... Welcome to the Forum! InsideEVs just published this piece saying the price will start at $33,400, (plus tax, license, registration, $890 destination charge and options). It goes on sale December 1st and qualifies for the full $7,500 federal tax credit. Looks pretty nice from the inside.
Thanks. Except for outside styling, which is a bit too generic except for the ugly rear wheel skirt, it may be the closest thing yet to my ideal car. I hope I'm not disappointed.
I would give your preferred local dealer a call and see if they plan on carrying it. Maybe if they know there's local interest, they'll being some in.
Such an exciting vehicle. Real game changer when they put the phv in a regular Accord body instead of the adapted fvc platform. And of course the straight EV even more so. May be giving Tesla some room.
But never popular in recent times. Also I think the average Camry and Accord buyer wants inconspicious they don't want to make a political statement or draw attention to themselves. Tesla understood that. Other makes don't seem to at this point.
I think it will be a great car! I only hope that Honda produces it in large numbers. If they treat it with more respect than the Fit EV I could see it being a hit.
I'm pleased so far with the Clarity rollout! When we initially talked this thread, the Clarity BEV had just sold 34 units in the month prior and the PHEV wasn't out yet. November and December were great showings for the Clarity and I'd love to see that continued this year. There are currently about 30 Clarity PHEVs in stock or in transit near my area of Dallas/Ft Worth. Those numbers aren't incredibly large, of course. But if availability continues at that state or grows, Honda will quickly become the 3rd bestselling plug-in brand in my area - just behind Chevy and Nissan. That's a good place to be! Toyota dealers in my area continue to disappoint me though. 1 Prius Prime near DFW?!? Sheesh.
