Persistent rumors that the AWD ID.4 Pro/Pro S in US will only be produced in Chattanooga TN and not imported from Germany. Any info on that? This could impact my reservation for the vehicle. P.S. VW builds a different Passat in the US than those produced in Europe.

  4. Congratulations and a fine color choice, pretty close to the anticipated U.S. arrival date.
Look forward to updates on the delivery schedule and your review to follow once arrived.:)
Hopefully Canada won't be too far behind.

What does that mean for the ETA?

Don’t know. Here’s the status from VW ID.4 order website, as of Friday March 5:
    “Your order is
    locked.
Now that your order is locked, production can begin. We have started manufacturing your all-new ID.4.You will be notified when production is complete.”

  8. Congrats on the car! Look forward to hearing some first-hand owner impressions. I'm hoping to take it for a test drive when my local dealer gets it in the next few weeks.

And yes, for now, ID. 4 sold in the U.S. will come from Germany, but as soon as Chattanooga gets online, they should all (for North America orders) be made there.

Domenick, you mean a rwd test drive, correct? I haven’t heard of an AWD being available for test drives in the us yet!

  10. They didn't specify which ID. 4. Got a message a couple day ago saying it could be here to test drive in the 2nd half of this month.

Update received from VW of America:

We're writing to notify you that the estimated delivery timeframe of your ID.4 has changed to October-December 2021.....
We realize this may require you to adjust plans for your current vehicle. If you'd like to get into a rear-wheel drive ID.4 earlier, please contact our Customer CARE team. Or, if you need to cancel your reservation, simply log into my ID.4 Reservation and you'll receive a full refund. We thank you for your patience.”

    likely will cancel reservation.

Sorry to hear. Will you choose a RWD?

Likely not! This was supposed to replace a 2014 BMW X1 sDrive RWD with only 25k miles on the clock and in great shape. I think it’s prudent to wait and see what the test drives of the AWD, as compared to the RWD.

  15. There are other pretty interesting competitors -- I'm thinking Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6, Nissan Ariya off the top of my head -- arriving in this time frame, so waiting might be a good idea.

Had my first test drive of the ID.4 RWD this morning, I’m impressed and expecting the AWD to have more torque beyond the first 35 mph. The B drive mode is perfectly weighted for city driving (without jerking occupants in forward-back head motion). The car was very easy to decipher and drive; the one thing I’ll probably disconnect is the pedestrian warning sound. Customers’ cars arrived already and there was an all hands training session on the car I eventually test drove. Left the dealership more convinced that this is a good decision for me.

The dealer said there are ~25 orders, 4 of them for the AWD and the rest for the 1st edition and Pro RWD. I’m the only one with the Blue exterior and the rest are either Black or White. Was also told that VW informs the dealer of the exact cars being shipped to them ~45-60 days in advance .... they’ll contact me when they know.

I ordered the AWD in March and got same email, but already saw them update AWD on website to October-December. I have driven the RWD twice now and for me it is too slow off the line. I suspect VW wants to get people to switch to RWD as the longer someone sits on order the more competitors will launch. Toyota is about to reveal a SUV, Kia and Hyundai will release their cars before the AWD ships. Right now the Kia EV6 would get my money if they can deliver enough.I suspect several of these cars are going to sell out their runs pretty quickly.

If VW doesn’t deliver on the AWD by end of year, then it’s not coming to US from Germany. VW would probably let Chattanooga produce the AWD for the US market later in ‘22.

Not sure if VW will brand (all?) AWD as ID.4 GTX: HP up from 201 to 302 & torque from 228 to 339 over the RWD model. On paper it should be quicker (they claim 0-62 in 6.2 sec.) The unveiling of the GTX is scheduled for April 28.

6.2 is a tad slow, but tolerable. At this point my AWD order has been in for over a month, if Kia or hyundai entries bet ID/4 to availability I may get one of them.

Am afraid you’ll be disappointed with Kia and Hyundai; massive demand in Asia and no batteries to go around. First priority in the US will be to ZEV states. P.S. my reservation has been in since October 6, and would call it a success to have it this year.

Yeah Hyundai has shown no interest outside ZEV states, but Kia sells here in GA. My hope is by time VW ships AWD most of the issues are resolved and build quality is good. I was debating a Bolt EUV 36 month lease and let the US EV market get ramped up and see what my choices are in 3 years.
