Today Hyundai released some official teaser images of the actual production IONIQ 5, and I'm impressed at how closely they kept the look of the Hyundai 45 Concept!

Personally, I wish they had gone for a different design for the wheel, but I'm glad they kept things like the full width clamshell hood. While the design is polarizing, it is certainly going to stand out from the other EVs on the market.

Hyundai also released this teaser video:

  3. Nice pictures! Looks way better w/out the charge port in front, back looks pretty sleek as well. Not a big fan of the curved lines on the wheel wells but 2 out of three is OK.
    BTW the mirrors look awesome:)

  4. Thanks for sharing! I love how faithful this production version is to the original.
Besides the video you shared above there are three more now. I'll add them here.

  5. Ok, just lightened two of the teaser images in case someone wants to see them less "shadowy."
Surprised at how"butch" it looks from behind. Nice!

I see some DeLorean DMC 12 in both the front fascia and the rear profile, esp. with the pixelated lights.

I noticed that the front page of the Hyundai USA website now shows the IONIQ 5. The "Learn More" link goes to the Hyundai News US press release on the IONIQ 5. This is one additional confirmation that the US release is imminent. Here's hoping for the first half of the year!

  9. Nothing on Hyundai Canada site. With the reveal date Feb/2021 and sales "before 2022", I would expect to see this on the Canadian website some time in late 2022, somewhat like the Kona EV when it was only available on a pre-order basis.
I think I will wait it out this time (not blindly pre-order)until actual deliveries occur before deciding to purchase, pending of course our Federal rebate program is still operational at the level it is now or better.
My 21 model should still be worth a decent trade in value in 2023 (I don't drive a lot these days so the Km's should be low) and I am not in any hurry as Kona EV suits my needs for now. I do however look forward to the reviews, particularly to see what kind of sine wave (true or modified) the included 3.5 kW inverter provides as this (and the camera mirrors) interest me the most. Also on the wish list display the battery pack temperature.

From Hyundai's German/Austrian Twitter account comes a new teaser clip which implies that the IONIQ 5 will have a frunk.

A few new details that have been revealed by the official Hyundai Belgium IONIQ 5 page. It confirms the frunk detail from my previous comment:

    And then adds the following:

"From Night to Bright in 256 pixels"
    Translation:
You will see. And your IONIQ 5 will surely be seen (and remembered), with its powerful LED headlights, shining thanks to a unique design of 256 pixels. You'll also turn heads during the day, thanks to its clean, crisp lines, inspired by Hyundai's 45 concept.

    Fully reclining front seats

    Translation:
The IONIQ 5 isn't the only one that needs a quick charge every now and then. That's why the IONIQ 5 offers first-class comfort with two fully adjustable recliner seats in the front. With the push of a button, you can sit back and relax for a refreshing break.

  13. The Norway Hyundai site is the same. Meanwhile, on Canada Hyundai site not even a mention. As usual , Europe gets all the exposure first and will no doubt get the first sales assuming Hyundai follows the same schedule as Kona EV ( about an eight month differential). Not a bad thing, as we will get lots of reviews prior to the release in N.A.;)

  14. I believe Hyundai is targeting the European market first, due to its EV-friendly regulations, but they shouldn't have too much of a head start (not sure how long, but will keep ears open).
