  1. Happy to announce the EV Watchdog Free App (Android only) has just been published.

Following the PHEV Watchdog App (which supports the Outlander PHEV, Kia Niro PHEV, Kia Optima PHEV and Hyundai Ioniq PHEV) and after some requests I've decided to create a new Android (only) monitoring App for Kia and Hyundai EV models.

Watchdog is a complete monitoring App, it does not only extract and display info provided by the car systems in real time but creates more stats and analysis and keeps track of everything by storing historical data in it's internal database.

Here a couple of screenshots of the live monitoring screens (or where you see the info while driving)

The App keeps track in a list of the battery condition (changes in SoH and SoC). And you'll get one card for every changes seen (screen on the left). From each card (one tap) you'll have access to the details of the recorded state (right screen).

You can get the App from playstore here:
    https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ev.watchdog

And be sure to check the FAQ on the website:
    https://evwatchdog.net/help/faq.php

Also if you're in facebook please join the Facebook group for the App:
    https://www.facebook.com/groups/ev.watchdog

    Enjoy!

Yeah, you have some things to look at here. I tried to change the system units to Imperial and the app kept displaying in metric. Also, it is insanely annoying that everytime I make a setting change I have to restart the application. You need to make that more seemless. The app also doesn't make it clear that it established a connection to the ODBII reader. It should display that more obviously somewhere.

On the plus side, I did get it to display the SoH of my Niro's batter (US spec). After about 3700 miles, it still says 100.0% health. Not sure if that's accurate or not, however.

I want to add that your app is unstable on my phone (Galaxy S10e). When I press Odometer it is supposed to toggle through a few options (range, ODO and one other), it crashes every time.

Cool thanks, I'll try it out

More bugs found: if you set the app up to automatically start a session when the app starts and it can't communicate with your car (because its out of range or not on), then the app goes into an endless loop spamming a message it can't establish communication to the car. When this happens, I can't get to settings to turn off the automatic starting. In fact, getting to settings is not easy at all to do in this app.

  8. if you are android, you should be able to delete the app data, hopefully that will clear the autostart setting.... if you have ios, I don't know, but there should be a way to do it.

This app is incredibly unstable for me. It crashes when trying to flip through the Odometer/Range setting, it seems to crash randomly. I am going to uninstall it until the author can get it working right.

  10. OK, that's v0.4 beta so please do not expect to be perfect.

Already fixed the odometer/range change of units crash for the next release.
Looking at the system of units bug and should be OK for the next release.
For the OBD2 connection status look for the icon in the top right corner.
Not supposed to launch the App while you are away from your car or the car is off, so at this moment noted but not on my priority list.
Same for the "restart app after settings change" most changes don't require it so don't see it as real problem.

Thanks for the feedback I do appreciate it.
Since the App is provided at no cost I'm really not after good reviews but I do care about the troubles/opinions of the users.
I'm sorry if the App is not up to your standards and if you feel it's not working for you please feel free to uninstall and forget.

I was expecting the app to behave better. If this is a beta, I can understand that, but I didn't see anywhere in this thread (until your last post) that it is a beta. I will wait until it matures more and give it another try.

On the positive side, I do like how much information it exposes. That's very handy.

  13. I believe he mentioned it as beta on another forum.

Also, anything less than 1.0 is beta or alpha by convention.

In any case I appreciate the effort, as many others do, apologies to the author.

No worries mate, I and probably many others appreciate your hard work.

I love the battery cell info graphic, pretty cool to see each individual cell voltage!

Looking forward for more UX improvements.

    2. agree data uploading,
    3. go to the website sign up page (blue link in the dialog box) and register there providing your NetId code that was copied to the clipboard by the App.

Then from the App make sure you are connected to a data network and hit the "Sync Now" option in the App's menu to force to send the data on normal usage this is actually not necessary as the App will try to sync several times by itself during operation).
