https://www.autonews.com/video/autonews-now-vw-delaying-us-launch-id4-electric-crossover https://insideevs.com/news/455709/volkswagen-id4-us-delayed-q1-2021/ Moderator note: As the thread title suggests, the VW ID.4 has been delayed in the U.S.. It looks like deliveries will now begin in March of 2021 and "It will now launch the ID4 across the U.S., instead of just ZEV states, with initial deliveries slated for March." So, not all bad news.
Honestly I am not surprised. It sounds like there are glitches in ID.3 that they are working out, and there are remaining software issues that they are trying to deal with. Edit: Sounds like the real driver for this is that they need to sell EVs in Europe to minimize the emission related fines. Early issues with ID.3 meant that they sold fewer than anticipated. https://insideevs.com/news/455709/volkswagen-id4-us-delayed-q1-2021/
Well, as I am in no hurry to get mine (Clarity lease is up 10/2021), this might just work to my advantage. However, I know a few people who were expecting to get there's much sooner. They will be very disappointed. I do agree, if they don't work out the software glitches I keep reading about, I would not take delivery anyway.
As far as I know, they haven't delivered any cars to Europe either. Once production-quality cars become available, I have no doubt that we will see videos from Bjorn doing his usual tests.
Only video by Bjorn so far, although no banana box test yet Edit: sorry ericy I didn't see you already posted this
It sounds like they are close to a big software update for the ID.3 that adds some of the missing functionality (mostly infotainment). But I haven't heard of any deliveries anywhere of ID.4.
LOL. They must be getting ready to send out an email blast of some sort, but they inadvertently sent a dummy test message instead: This is your Owner In Waiting 1 DUMMY email Hi Eric, Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Ut enim ad minim veniam, quis nostrud exercitation ullamco laboris nisi ut aliquip ex ea commodo consequat. Bah. Got a generic email with an "Intro to driving an EV" type of stuff. Level 1, 2, etc. They mention "Level 3", which the pedant in me objects to as there is no such thing. And then a link to EA which tells me what I already know (nearest EA is >100 miles from here).
Yeah I got that and thought it was going to be some clever marketing thing but just a web developer oops.
Your handle says Delaware. A site with 5 x 150kW plus chargers is listed at this location in Wilmington. WAWA Store 840 - New Castle, DE 2634 mi 4000 N. DuPont Hwy New Castle, DE 19720
Thats upstate, and I know about those. We are downstate in Rehoboth Beach, and it is at least 80 miles to get up there. Maybe a bit more. There is a 50kw chargepoint a whole lot closer, and L2 all over the place.
Long Beach Island, NJ summer here...well back in the day...now's it's Astoria Bay and Salmon vs. Great Bay and flounder and stripers. Surprised Rehoboth doesn't have more chargers but isn't it mostly single homes so charging available? Does Biden have a place in Rehoboth, it is DC East in Summer. My shore run here is 93 miles one way. Charger near the house and then 50 miles from marina at the shore. So I can do the shore but have to be careful to have 60 miles left to get to EA fast chargers which are right next to Tesla SC's. Tesla is 18 miles from marina. https://imgur.com/QkrFZQU
Probably because there is so much seasonal traffic down here. Winters can be really dead, and summers are jammed, and a lot of companies just can't deal with that kind of variability. I have an EVSE in the garage, so it isn't like it bugs me that there isn't much DCFC around here. It is more of a pain for the tourists who stay in hotels or AirBnb. There is a Tesla supercharger here - it is only non-Tesla that have a harder time of it. Biden's place is less than a mile from here, but he isn't here all that often. I haven't sighted him myself, but I know people who have.
I saw the first id4 in the wild here in Tampa. It's a very normal looking vehicle which is not a bad thing.
I saw one the other day in San Francisco. I thought it looked nice -- normal, perhaps, but on the attractive side of normal. I was kind of surprised to see one of these on the road before I saw a Mach E
I've now seen 3 ID4s in the wild in San Francisco. In comparison, I have yet to see a Mustang Mach E. At least in my corner of the woods VW seems to be doing pretty well with this car.
I was at Electrify America over the weekend. There were 8 stalls, 5 of which were occupied (2 ID.4, e-tron, Mach-e, and a Bolt). One stall was out of order (e-tron was driven by field service tech for ABB who was repairing it). That's the busiest I have seen so far.
Interesting. Here in San Francisco I still haven't seen a Mach-e, but the German EVs are all over the place -- lots of e-trons and i3s in addition to the new VWs.
