Does anyone know if you can turn off the screen light completely (not just dimming it). I understand that the behind the steering wheel 5” screen needs to be on all the time (vital car info. dimmed option). I do most of my out of town travel at night and hate to have the 12” screen blaring at my eyes (even if dimmed). If this option is not available, I’ll throw a piece of cloth over the screen!

Now we know. I tested it with a VW rep at my local dealer; there is a “very dark” illumination option for the center touchscreen, but no blackout. The dealer rep promised to fashion a color coordinated screen cover!

I also found the large screen too bright for night driving My solution, not the best if you want constant use/view of the display, was to use the screen configuration options to black it out. I choose to set the final screen choice in full but not populate it. When driving, I set up whatever I want for entertainment or nav, slide to the final screen display option and the display is black. If I want to make a call or change something, just swipe to a visible screen…swipe back. The VW nav directional pointer remains visible on the small steering column screen.

  5. have you tried "dark mode"? it makes a huge difference.

I’ll give it a try when I get my car back in a couple weeks. (Battery coolant pump failed).
