The Drive drove the Clarity Plug-In Hybrid in NYC and liked almost everything but its looks.

Nice positive review. Pretty accurate except for the mistake about the ICE always running while in SPORT mode.

He got 48-50 mpg in combined highway/city using using gas only. That's similar to my experience.

I bet many people thought the automobile was a hideously ugly contraption compared to a horse 100+ years ago. We're now in a new world where the old auto priorities like 'exciting styling' and 'luxury' take a back seat to efficiency, safety/autonomy and connectivity. Form follows function so I expect the form to permanently evolve away from what we've become accustomed to. Frumpy? Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

I think the 2019 Insight is beautifully styled for a compact/midsized car. If that is an important criteria for a hybrid to sell, it should be a best seller for any car (55 mpg, fast acceleration, and excellent handling, what a breakthrough!). Unfortunately, buyers prefer poor handling, gas guzzling SUVs over excellent cars so I don't expect it to sell as well as it should.

No - it will take $4 gasoline prices to wake them up...
