Does Kia offer over the air software updates like apple and Tesla? Maybe in a future update, Kia can find a Way to have wireless Apple car play in the EX Premium EV

  3. Not in the US or Canada.

  4. It's quite likely the Ioniq brand cars will have over the air software updates, but I wouldn't expect that to come to the Niro EV.

  5. Which could be good or could also be bad, at least with updates done at the dealer one can prepare (ie: make sure the 12 V battery is in prime condition and SOC, wait and see how other vehicles have been affected etc) and see the results after it is done. Some have experienced related issues due to mis-installed applications or not complete updates. With ota updates one would have no choice and may not even realize one has been done until having some kind of issue that may or may not be related.

  6. Most updates of any device nowadays have built in failure detection, i.e. they download the new firmware, and if there is any issue the system can revert back to the old version.

My phone ASKS to allow the OTA software update.

You ALWAYS risk getting new bugs in a new version, no matter who it comes from.

I would not use those lines of reasoning to "put down" OTA updates...

Also, I see no reason the car, having the broadband interface already, could not get a firmware update to allow OTA updates.

  8. Not meant as a "put down" just offering my opinion;)

  9. Cool, just commenting on the negatives you expressed. The mis-installed updates are actually often people trying the wrong update... that possibility is eliminated by OTA updates for example.

  10. No worry's, I should have listed a few positives as well, that being one of them. Another would the convenience of not having to book/travel to a dealer especially if the closest one is some distance away.

  11. Yes, although we are lucky. The guys in Europe have to go to a dealer to update, we can get them for free and do it ourselves.

Unfortunately, downloading the latest software doesn't apply for those of us who didn't pay for the navigation (Premium) model. I was notified by Kia earlier today that I have to visit my local dealership for head unit updates.

  14. I'm a kia newbie, so I am unaware of the models that do not have navigation. I did not realize they made the Niro EV without navigation.

  15. I just want to be clear that I am referring to actual operational updates concerning BMS , accessory battery charging, cell deviation/differential etc . Map or navigational updates take less priority, sorry if any misinterpretation.

  16. OK, now I am confused, the update I applied recently had plenty of other updates in it, besides the map.

Sorry I am being dense, cannot still quite figure out the point you are making, and your avatar says you don't even have a niro, but you have an "ultimate" Kona, and I assume it has navigation. We are indeed in the Niro forum unless it's my magic mushrooms kicking in! :D

  17. I see mapnsoft (the people who charge $25 for the update SD/USB) finally has a map update for the 2020 Niro EV: NAM.13.47.44.680.101.5

What is funny is that update.kia.com (the free one you can download yourself) has NAM.13.47.44.680.201 .... newer...

So much for the "new map coming soon"....
