https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/20/21377399/google-android-auto-android-11-wireless-phone-support Unfortunately, judging from the Google support page, only the fuel cell Clarities have the required 5 GHz wifi support in the head unit :-(
I don't believe that it matters. All versions of the Clarity use the same head unit. Odds are, if it works on the CR-V or Civic, it likely also works on the Clarity.
Hopefully so, but the AA support page explicitly lists only the FC model: https://www.android.com/auto/compatibility/
All versions of the Clarity have a headunit that supports 5GHz WiFi, but I suppose we will have to wait and see regardless.
Trust me it doesn't work with Clarity Headunit i've tried multiple times with my galaxy and android auto beta with wireless connectivity is a nono.
BMWs have heretofore supported only Apple CarPlay, but to the company's surprise, many of their customers kept requesting Android Auto support. The company announced this summer it would implement only the Wireless version of Android Auto and only on select vehicles. But there's a big restriction (see below). Is this a universal restriction of Wireless Android Auto or just a BMW snub? > However, there is a caveat to BMW’s Android Auto support. > It will only support the Wireless version of the platform which > restricts the platform to users with Pixel, Nexus, and select > Samsung devices And WTF, did Apple tell BMW not to implement the wired version of Android Auto that works with all modern smartphones?
I am sure the headend unit need some kind of upgrade before we can do wireless AA. But why would you want wireless anyway. The batt in the phone drain so quickly with the AA running. I rather have the phone wired so it can keep charging.
For me, AA consistently disconnects every few minutes in my Clarity which is very frustrating. I have to unplug it and plug it back in and then it will usually reconnect, but sometimes it will happen multiple times in a few minutes. I've tried to fix it with multiple new Anker and OEM cables but the issue still regularly occurs. Wireless AA would be incredibly helpful just so that I wouldn't have to deal with that issue anymore. And because most of my driving trips average about 10 minutes in length I wouldn't be too concerned about battery drain, although I realize my use case doesn't likely line up with the average user.
@cokeb5 , AA uses bluetooth too. So make sure you don't have anything else in the car that the phone can connect to with BT.
I run AA on my Samsung Note 9 - NOT plugged into a USB port, so it isn't connected to the head unit (HU.) Having Honda Hack, I have Waze programmed to the (up, or forward button) on my steering wheel. I can invoke HotSpot on my phone for Wi-fi to the HU for Waze connectivity.
I believe it was Google which told BMW to PFO as BMW wanted to charge annual fee to enable Android Auto like they do with CarPlay on some US models.
No one on this forum has reported getting wireless Android Auto to work on their Clarity. For what it's worth, this 11/15/20 Autoevolution article about using wireless Android Auto in a Honda says, "Previously, Google restricted the wireless mode of Android Auto to the Pixel series and Samsung phones on Android 10. The company, however, decided to remove this requirement for all devices with the release of Android 11, so all models running the new operating system can launch Android Auto wirelessly as long as the head unit in the car supports it. Worth knowing, however, is the rollout of Android 11 is still in its early phases and not all devices out there received it. While the Google Pixel series can already be updated to this latest version of the mobile OS, Samsung owners need to wait a little bit more, as the South Koreans are currently testing the update as part of a private beta program."
I have both the Pixel 4A and latest Samsung S21 with Android 11.. I can't wait to try it after getting my Clarity from the repair shop.
