I was excited for a minute too, but when you read the article it doesn't seem to be more than we already have. We have server side routing e.x. So I'm not sure what the big improvements for us should be.
It sounds like there will be "improvements" in the fall. At the end of the day, they have a couple of years to improve it to the point where people would say "yeah, I will pay $/month for that". Right now the value isn't really there, but I sort of see that there is promise.
Totally agree .. I can't imagine paying $30/month for that buggy and inconsistent POC. We'll see how much the improvements change that.
At the very least they must enable real-time navigation updates via LTE rather than whatever happens now if you happen to have HDR coverage. So far, Bluelink is little more than an app and a rescue service.
After the most recent update, an attempt to navigate will use the LTE to get the route (if possible). I have seen cases where the cell towers are just slammed (thousands of tourists in town), where the thing just tells me that the network isn't stable, and that it is reverting to a static routing. I ought to try and get a picture of that message sometime. My old car had no LTE - it could only use HDR. When I would leave our beach home, the route would be fairly normal - there was a certain spot in the trip where it could pick up a radio station that had traffic, and then the navi would hound me mercilessly to change the route. I always interpreted this to mean that there essentially was no HDR traffic in the area around our beach house. I also see cases where it gives you the realtime status of at least some of the chargers (how well this works is going to depend a lot on the charger network).
