I called them but all they could do is agree it's very strange to have a car sitting at the port as long as mine has.
That's awesome!!! My theory is that it needs ~11 days to get to "exterior assembly" stage after "production begins" stage. My estimated build completion date is Sept 2nd but I reckon it'll happen before middle of August.
Funny story. I reviewed the online information (thanks for the links) and thought I would try the Ask Mini number. The part about the information you get depending on the person you get on the phone is very accurate. I got someone named Sam and after I gave him my production number he took a while to get back to me to tell me that I was scheduled to begin production in October! I about fell out of my chair. He said, “ya the 2021 Minis are scheduled for Oct.”. I knew that wasn’t right and told him some other Minis I knew of had just started production. He seemed amazed and after checking some more he realized he was wrong and I am actually in line for production now but no start date yet. Not what I was hoping for but way better than Oct. I asked if perhaps my MINI Cooper SE had been damaged and was waiting to be repaired. He said there would be a "hold" on my car if that had happened and there was none.
https://insideevs.com/news/436682/mini-cooper-se-production-exceeded-11000-cumulatively/ Now the plant is entering annual summer shutdown Nooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! So my September 2nd build completion date is correct!!! So is the news in oxford mail about the 3 week closure in August..
Curiouser and curiouser. ...Which means I will enter my own waiting purgatory. Even if they finish building my SE before August 1, it seems unlikely they would get it dispatched to the carrier before closing down. <sigh>
While My Garage still shows my SE at the port, I called 1-866-ASK-MINI (1-866-275-6464) and the customer service rep said my SE has been released to a carrier and it should be at the dealer by Monday (8/3). Just days to go...
Seriously bad news. I was so close to actual production. I’m also confused with so many of you with production starting this week. I guess it all just waits for everyone to come back. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
If my car is already sitting on the line, partially assembled, I have a little anxiety about the MINI factory crew coming back after three weeks off and just starting back in on it. I know I'm always a little groggy my first few days back from vacation...
I could be wrong but my guess is if your car enters the assembly stage, it most likely will be completed. Let us know if the status changes to "ready for transport" today/tomorrow. I share your concern about poor quality of assembly during the first few weeks of production. It would have been nice if the car was getting a few subtle updates..
My car began assembly at the beginning of June, immediately after the pandemic shut-down. How many of the original assembly team members were able to return to their accustomed places on the assembly line?
We are in the same boat, and I have similar concerns. Which is worse from a quality perspective: Having your car built just before summer holiday, or just after returning from summer holiday? Worse-case scenario is probably starting before the holiday and finishing after! And since I'm such a nerd, I wonder which build week to claim if it started Week 31 but didn't finish until Week 35...
Assembly is progressing on my SE at a decent rate the past few hours. Not to jinx it, but it seems on pace to at least complete assembly today. I must not be the only one checking a bit more obsessively, because the tracking site has gotten pretty sluggish. Heh!
Very likely! Mine was at “Quality Check” when I went to bed last night, and is currently “Awaiting Carrier Assignment”. Sent from my iPhone using Inside EVs
I believe the "carrier" is the train that brings the MINIs 67 miles from the Plant Oxford to the port in Southampton. I hope both you and @F14Scott are able to clear the Check-mark #13 hurdle quickly. It's been very unlucky for me.
That's my understanding, also. It's already Sunday in Oxford and my status hasn't changed, so I guess my SE will be sitting at the plant for the next 3 weeks. <sigh>
Yeah, I'm still on Quality Check. From the spreadsheet, it appears no one whose SE began building in the last week of July made it out of the factory before the break. ETA: *except for that dirty, rotten @MichaelC. ;D
