  1. I was looking at equipment for L2 charging at home on Amazon, and I realize they sell an Amazon Basics branded EVSE for L2 charging. It seems to have all the basics: certified, NEMA level 4 rated weather protection, 32 A, 240 V.....the only atypical thing is it uses a NEMA 6-50 outlet, instead of the more typical NEMA 14-50.

Any experiences - good or bad? I guess it's a good thing that Amazon thinks branding an EVSE is good business, but is it a good EVSE?

  3. It looks to be the same unit as EvoCharge sells for $479 (and PowerCharge sells for the same price, but with a 25-foot cord), but for a lot less ($397.84). Here are pics (below) of all three.

Our EVSE specialist hasn't reviewed this unit yet, but has heard of them. The customer reviews seem positive, at least.

  5. Sure, but I trust the Amazon Basics brand; I'm not sure I'd trust an unknown like "Mustart", which is just a 3 year old company with unknown service.

  7. Well, that is up to you, of course. But I can tell you that many of these (incl Amazon Basic) all have the same components (Chinese) with slightly different variations, and brand names (sellers). And some are exactly the same, just different names.

3 years is a fairly long time in the EVSE business. And newer is better than older, with these... Also portable is better, and could come in very handy when on a longer trip.

  8. I have not heard any negative reports yet for the Mustart EVSE, at least in this forum. Seems a good value for a portable unit.;)

I had an issue with the plug (the power cord plug that plugs into a 10-30 outlet - not the one that plugs into the car)) of my first Mustart 26 amp EVSE. It was functioning but the plug would get very hot. I communicated with Mustart and their Customer service was great. They even exchanged it for me to the 32 amp version for the 14-50 plug. Great customer service.. I've had the 32 amp version of it for a year now and has zero issues.. Very good EVSE for the money and best of all, you can take it with you on a trip.
