British rescue diver sticks it to Elon Musk!

It was clear from the beginning that Elon concocted a game. He asks some fanboi to tweet him first about helping on the mission so he can start the game rolling.
I suspect the submarine he sent doesn't work and the video he put up on how it was working in the pool was another of his fake videos, like the fake self driving car demo video posted 2 years ago. If it really worked, why didn't he go to some local pond and try it out? A pool water is very different from muddy cave water. The video he made is only good for Tesla shareholder letter and his twitter followers.

This is why he shows up with the submarine AFTER the last rescue operation was already underway, so there is no chance of trying it out. He was told not to bring his sub, but he still went ahead and littered the Thai beach with that sub.

Now a real expert involved in the rescue mission has come out in the open on what he thinks about the submarine:
He can stick it where it hurts. .. Absolutely no chance that sub would have worked. Just a PR stunt.
(Just like the one in Puerto Rico where Elon brought back power to millions of people in a week. /sarcasm)

No surprise at all here, Elon is constantly looking for attention, and trying to be a hero. He is like an Iron Man that seems to show up late, and with a bad idea... Off to Flint now to save those poor people with contaminated water... haha Why now? Earnings call is upcoming...Maybe? Possibly to distract Bears that have been feasting since Elon last threatened them. I am getting the popcorn ready for the earnings call...

Here are real divers talking about the dangers. There is also a video somewhere that showed how narrow some of the underwater passages are, that divers had to push the tank ahead of them to get through.

It sounds like the cave is flooded and still has a lot of diving equipment to retrieve. The mini-sub may be the way to start the recovery of equipment early. Regardless, big yawn.

This stuff gets crazier every day... Elon donating to Republicans, and bullying anyone that dare stand up to him, first it was the Farting Unicorn Artist, then the SEC whistleblower, and now the British Rescue Diver. Thankfully he stopped at blocking me on Twitter when I called out his semi BS... Very interestingly there seems to be a demand issue on Model 3, as they opened the configurator up to the whole USA, and then the lead-times have shortened twice since then. Sounding like now that they got production going, demand is falling off? The rest of this year could be very interesting... getting the popcorn ready...

( PS: OK, I am now not sure about this. The water looks clear, and someone said it is from a diving expedition in Wisconsin. But the 36" narrow opening is likely similar.)

Who would've thunk? Pent up demand is not the same as steady state demand.
Wait for the production to come back down to 1000 a week, or even ZERO, when Elon comes up with some "line upgrade" excuse to shut down production.
Making more enemies with media, liberals and now recently with world heroes can take further toll on demand.
I hope my put options bought when SP was $350 expiring Mar 2019 makes me rich. :)

I see our two Usual Suspects among the serial Tesla bashers are in full roar in this thread, displaying their almost insane level of jealousy for Elon Musk.

It appears there are quite a lot of things one must believe which are contrary to common wisdom, in order to become a serial Tesla basher. The Usual Suspects here clearly don't believe:

Wow, you are a real short? I have heard the myth of you guys, but never actually seen one (I have been called a short plenty of times for my realistic vision of Tesla's operations). I cannot wish you good luck because as much as think Musk is an idiot, and Tesla's product is of too poor of quality for me to buy, I actually hope they succeed. I actually like BEV's, and want to see more of them on the road which Tesla is pushing the big guys to build much better and more capable products.

The daily drama is good though, and watching Musk make mistake after mistake is funny. I really do not like the way Musk picks on those with much more meager means however, and for that I would like to see him get a bit of his own.
 
Near as I can tell, the rescue effort has no impact on Tesla production other than the engineers Musk sent to the site. By now, I suspect they've returned home and regular duties.

I understand the desire but not the need to proof the Tesla, personal submarine.

Developing a prototype small personal submarine would be far better done in warm, shallow, clear waters, such as at the Bahamas. A place where dive time isn't limited by hypothermia, and underwater sight isn't restricted by muddy water.

Trying to do that in the middle of a very difficult rescue effort... well, I wasn't there -- and neither was anybody else commenting here -- but common sense suggests to me that the need to support and supply the submarine itself would create more difficulties than any benefit it might have to such a rescue effort, even if the sub had already been thoroughly tested and any needed modifications already performed. At best, such a mini-submarine could only be used for one of several sections of the perilous passage through dark narrow cave tunnels which twist in every possible direction.

If Elon's intention was pure, ti would be okay. But there are clear evidences that the guy's intention was to hijack a humanitarian disasters and inject himself into it to get free publicity and act as some genius mastermind who solved the entire problem :) Look at how he brought power to millions of Puerto Ricans . /sarcasm).
* The guy shows up with his barely tested sub AFTER it's all done.
* The guy physically shows up there for photo-op and PR stunt.
* The guy has no clue how to do research & development in private. Needs to publicize everything. Solve the problem, take the sub to a murky pond and test it out. Don't act like a smart *** on twitter enamoring your idiot fans and mostly fake followers.
* The guy had no reason to be physically there, distracting and obstructing rescue work. His engineers are the ones who built the sub from scrap. One sub? How many days would it take to rescue 13 people? What a freaking joke!

As to your bolded part: That's a logical fallacy of some sort. You don't need to be a film director to judge a film. PP, you don't even have any sort of EV or half EV. I don't know if you are even of age to drive. But you come here everyday, bashing every other EV.Is that logical then? What EV have you developed?

About the purpose of such criticisms: They throw light on the dark side of these narcissist billionaires who exploit human catastrophes to further their own personal goals. I loathe such behavior, and you should too. So, it is vital to bring public awareness to these, so that these people get penalized for what they are and get less and less succesful in future attempts to repeat these scams.

I have a genuine interest in EVs and the EV revolution. You don't; you post here only out of greed and an attempt to manipulate the stock market using false statements and half-truths.

If one of us doesn't deserve to post here, it's certainly not me. I rather doubt you own an EV, so you're being hypocritical... not that hypocrisy ever stopped any Tesla basher!

BTW -- there's no such thing as a "half EV". EVs are part of a spectrum, with pure gasmobiles at one end and pure BEVs at the other.

Wouldn't defend the GOP donation at all, but he does need some sway with both sides right now- even as that is always bribery. But the rest of it is ridiculous. Musk did Puerto Rico and Australia and gets involved and produces results. Did this when he might have rested after the Model 3 hell. Not a PR stunt. As for the rest of it how do we know the Brit isn't a member of the petrachy or Brit version of Pizza gate in all of its illuminist glory? Is he mad because what Tesla does costs his group money and power(?) Maybe it was bitterness over the Trump visit...? Musk is supposed to be on egg shells all the time because he opposes petrol. Its utter nonsense and it was just cooked up to suppress the ton of positive news coming out about Tesla.

Brit having legal recourse seems like nonsense as well. UK has stronger defame laws but guy got involved with a public person in a public spat. Said really stupid things. Also, what is the jurisdiction? The whole internet. Thailand? UK tries to go after firm? Come on. Nonsense. Guy's 5 seconds of fame.
 
I have no idea if the sub would have worked or not but I would value the opinion of an experienced cave diver who has seen the situation first hand over anyone who has not seen it first hand, and is not an experienced cave diver, second. So I am on the side that this idea will not have worked.

However, this move has generated great publicity that showcases Elon Musks technical acumen and philanthropy. The interesting part is that he gets that for almost free (assuming there is a small cost to build the sub and to travel to the caves). This is true even if the idea would not have worked and even if people criticize him. His believers, of which there are many, are just thrilled that he is person who is willing to put his money where his mouth is (this is what one of is fan club members told me). My suggestion is finish out the sub and let it troll the Indian Ocean searching for MH 370. That would be an incredible achievement if it can find it but I am not holding my breadth.

huh? troll the Indian ocean? this was not a submarine, and has no sensors, or means of propulsion or communication... How is dragging an empty tube around the ocean going to find MH 370? The worlds Navy's have looked from sea and air, as have exposition of private professionals with sophisticated equipment. Elon Musk is not going to take on such a complicated search, he is more into something easy to gather attention.

The other problem not mentioned by DG, is that this sub can't withstand the high pressure of the deep ocean. It's a tiny filmsy sub meant for shallow pools and near surface trolling. But without a propelling technology, this is already useless for that purpose.
