The owner of one of the cars that suffered a thermal event reached out to me via youtube. They had an HV battery warning come in and took it to the dealer. The car caught on fire while at the dealer
I wonder how long it was between the owner's arrival at the dealership and the start of the fire--and what happened during that interval. I'm sure there was a phone call. "Hello, BMW? A MINI Electric just drove in showing a dire HV battery warning. We need to know what...oh, never mind."

Sorry to hear the report of Mr Snrub regarding the SE that caught fire, even if it was at the dealership. I guess I should not be so put out if, after the update, the only thing that is still noticeable is the regen setting defaults to "low regen". But I don't know: was that always there ?

Mine has always defaulted to high regen, and the update didn't change that.

So I have an appointment next week with the deal to have this done, but I’m still kind of on the fence about the whole thing. Factors include such a low rate of occurrence (2?), doesn’t seem to really fix the problem, just mitigates if something does happen, and potentially screws up settings. I’m open to being convinced this is a dumb thing to skip, but I have a flawless car right now and would prefer to keep it that way.

I had zero issues with mine. My car was exactly like it was before I took it. Even my bimmer coding remained. I did have to reset some of the lock settings, but that was it.

The only Bimmercode setting I lost was getting rid of the "don't use the screen while driving" message on startup.

Which is kind of absurd given the new Minis don't have any non screen options, but that's another thread.

Did he share any other info or how long it caught fire after the warning?

We're still in limbo with the recall, due to the only Mini dealer in town closing. It'll cost us $1000 + 2 weeks of loaners to get this done.

I would skip it if I were you.

I did mine, but still need to redo my settings in bimmercode. PITA. I don't think it's even worth it, and I'm only 30 mi away from my dealer.

They don't seem too concerned either, but who knows!

Btw this is interesting:

"I know the cold will affect the mini’s power, but now I don’t get 100% access until about 50-60 minutes of driving at approximately -10 Celsius. My drive is a mix of highway and city driving. I feel like prior to the recall, it would give me full power maybe 15 minutes after I started driving in similar weather."

I haven't noticed any obvious change in the e-power recovery after the update, and I drive in very cold temperatures every winter.

I saw that one earlier. No noticable change in mine. We've had single digits a lot lately and yes, it takes a while, but it always did. I never had mine at 60% and only take 15 mins to get to 100% if super cold out. It's normal for me to not get to 100% for days when around 0 or so depending on driving and charging.

It was -31F this morning and I was with 1 bar of e-power. Had I plugged in and set a departure time, it would have been a different story. Last year for science, I cold soaked the SE below -40F (probably -49F but temp sensor doesn't go lower). It was barely drivable with rock hard seats and no power steering.

I'm pretty sure mine is affected this way as well. If I leave my car outside – which is always when I'm at work – my ePower is down when I get in the car to go home and it's been below freezing. Today I left my garage (10-12°C or 50-54°F ambient) with a 100% charge but no "preconditioning," ie: "not plugged in." It was -13°C (8.6°F) when I parked for 9 hours and it dropped to -15.5°C (4°F) over the course of the day. I got back to the car and it offered me 50% ePower for the entire 9 mile commute home. Last week when it was just a bit below freezing, I had between 70 and 90% ePower. I've simply never been this restricted before.

Before this winter I saw limited bars only well below freezing but this post-recall winter it's a common occurrence at higher temps.

For reference, today I drove my F-150 Lightning in -10 ºF (all-day) weather. It cold-soaked outdoors for eight hours and was reduced to 62% output power. My 40-mile freeway drive home brought it up to only 67% output power. I don't think that's much different from my SE.

This morning, it was -7F. I had scheduled for a 9:15am departure, so the car was toasty warm. But the available battery (is that the correct term?) was about 35%, and took forever to get to 100%. Not a noticeable limit in acceleration, though. Last winter, there were lots of mornings with 50%, but I don't remember anything lower, and it usually reached 100% before the end of a relatively short trip.

How much impact to you see on range at -7F or so. I chickened out this AM and took the ICE to work as I was anxious about the 90 mile round trip :) It does fine on 20F AM/35F PM days.

My experience is 90 miles would be very tight at that temperature. I get a maximum range of about 90 miles when that cold, but I find a 30- to 60-minute L2 charge midday suffices to make that distance.

As I’m traveling 70 miles every weekend one way with charging L2 200 yards away from house as temperatures in NY in 10-20 F’ in CT few degrees colder I’m keeping my SE in 60 ‘garage as this car is my forever car . My Subaru is doing good as replacement in this weather driving as a boat in high sees comparing to speeding race car as Mini SE but as I’m in 30’F weather an SE is only my preferable car to drive
